Hablar de suicidio podría parecernos un tema lejano, pero en realidad no sabemos cuántas personas luchan a diario con este pensamiento, pues ven en esta acción la única manera de salir de algún problema. Siendo un tema tan complejo, debemos entender que es un problema de salud pública, por lo tanto, nos corresponde a todos estar informados sobre cuáles son las alertas y así poder evitarlo.
El suicidio es la tercera causa de muerte entre las personas de 15 a 24 años de edad, y es más común entre las personas de 65 o más. La tasa de suicidio entre los ancianos es más alta en aquellos que se encuentran divorciados o viudos y en el último medio siglo, dicha tasa casi se ha triplicado entre adolescentes y adultos jóvenes.
La vida es el regalo de Dios para nosotros; cada mañana al despertar él destapa un sinfín de misericordias nuevas para ti y para mí, sin embargo, para aquel que vive en medio de la angustia, así como de la depresión, la amargura, trastornos psicológicos o abandono, despertar parece insignificante, y el enemigo sabe usar muy bien esas situaciones para restarle valor a nuestra vida.
En la Biblia hay un personaje que seguramente podría entender de lo que estamos hablando. Elías, un hombre de fe, después de una amenaza de la reina Jezabel decide huir, sentarse bajo un arbusto y pedirle a Dios que le quitara la vida; no me imagino cuanto tiempo estuvo llorando y lamentando su situación, pero la Biblia dice que hasta que se quedó dormido.
En medio de esa triste escena, aparece un ángel que le trae comida y le da ánimo; es ahí donde sabemos lo importante que es el apoyo de los seres queridos, un abrazo, una invitación, una palabra, una oración, cinco minutos de silencio mientras lloras, ¡que bendición son esos ángeles que Dios pone a nuestro lado en el momento indicado!
Elías luego de acudir al llamado del Señor, se da cuenta que Dios también está en medio del suave murmullo, no llega a hacer mucho ruido, llega con mucha paz, y lo puedes oír cuando apagas por un momento el ruido de tu corazón y los pensamientos de muerte; cuando lo escuchas puedes sentir como la esperanza vuelve a ti, te recuerda cuánto te ama (San Juan 3:16), nos ama a pesar de nuestras debilidades, conoce todo de nosotros y nunca nos deja solos.
De la historia de Elías puedes ver que tu vida le importa a Dios, si él te tiene en este mundo todavía es porque hay planes para tu vida y desea verlos cumplidos.

Talking about suicide might seem a distant topic, but in reality, we do not know how many people struggle daily with this thought because they see this action as the only way to get out of some problem. Being such a complex issue, we must understand that it is a public health problem. Therefore, it is up to all of us to be informed about what the alerts are and thus be able to prevent them.
Suicide is the third leading cause of death among people aged 15 to 24 and most common among 65 and older. The suicide rate among the elderly is highest among those who are divorced or widowed, and in the last half-century, the rate has nearly tripled among adolescents and young adults.
Life is God’s gift to us; every morning when we wake up, he unveils a myriad of new mercies for you and me; however, for those who live amid anguish, as well as depression, bitterness, psychological disorders or abandonment, waking up seems insignificant, and the enemy knows how to use these situations very well to detract from our life.
In the Bible, a character could surely understand what we are talking about. After a threat from Queen Jezebel, Elijah, a man of faith, decides to flee, sit under a bush and ask God to take his life; I can’t imagine how long he was crying and lamenting his situation, but the Bible says that until he fell asleep.
In the middle of that sad scene, an angel appears and brings him food and encourages him; it is there where we know how important the support of loved ones is. A hug, an invitation, a word, a prayer, five minutes of silence while crying, what a blessing are those angels that God puts by our side at the right time!
After coming to the call of the Lord, Elijah realizes that God is also amid the soft murmur. He comes with peace, and you can hear him when you turn off for a moment the noise of your heart and thoughts of death; when you listen to him, you can feel how hope returns to you; he reminds you how much he loves you (St. John 3:16), he loves us despite our weaknesses, he knows everything about us and never leaves us alone.
From the story of Elijah, you can see that your life matters to God; if he still has you in this world, it is because there are plans for your life, and he wants to fulfill them.
