Los límites de la libertad de expresión

Publicado

The limits of freedom of expression

Freedom of expression is a basic and vital right for any person, as important as the right not to be discriminated against, whether by origin, skin color, religion or even ideology.

Everyone has the right to freedom of thought and expression, which includes the freedom to seek, receive and impart information and ideas.

Most countries’ laws establish that the free exercise of thought and its expression cannot be subject to censorship, as long as the rights of third parties are respected. However, even with the efforts to respect this, in most of the countries that presume to be socialist or pseudo-socialist, there are more and more explicit and open intentions to limit freedom of expression.

Not only that, they include in their new modalities of coercion the limitation of religious expressions, almost always against laws loaded with social immorality and sexual debauchery.

Freedom of expression serves as a thermometer in democratic and plural societies, although with the legal limits that are the guarantee of the Juarist premise: “respect for the rights of others is peace”.

All international human rights organizations -including the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Opinion and Expression- point out that “expressions that incite racism, discrimination, xenophobia and intolerance are harmful”, so it is necessary to establish measures to govern these expressions.

Covert laws that threaten life, the integrity of children, freedom of worship and give free rein to debauchery, making it look like a right regardless of the consequences that this entails, are the excesses that are prevailing at this time of substantial change in the country.

El desafío de la bondad

Publicado

The challenge of kindness

It is not just about ‘doing good,’ but by example, helping others

In a world where negative news often makes headlines and society seems increasingly polarized, it is tempting to think that good-hearted people are in danger of extinction; however, considering Psalms 37:3, it would be a severe mistake to underestimate the ability given to us to protect and foster good amid the challenges of our time.

Kindness is a quality that has been prevalent throughout history and that often emerges in times of crisis; we see people striving to do good and organizations working to alleviate suffering. Kindness has not disappeared, but a more conscious effort is necessary to “keep it alive” in a society where it sometimes seems absent.

Cultivating goodness in ourselves and society is a complex but not impossible challenge. In every act, big or small, we have the opportunity to reflect our divine nature aligned with the character of our Father as we are taught in Psalms 145:9, “The Lord is good to all, and he tenderly cares for his works.”

One way to exercise goodness is to reflect on what God has done for us, get to know Him, and strive to imitate His benevolence by loving and serving those who need it. As Jesus pointed out in Luke 6:38, “Practice giving, and it will be given to you. They will pour into their laps an excellent measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over.”

So let us not forget that God wants us to persevere in “doing good” and help others not get tired through our example.

Justicia social

Publicado

Social justice

A philosophical and political point of view that promotes the equitable distribution of opportunities and resources

Throughout its history, the meaning of social justice has varied but always around the same axis of equality. However, in 2007, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed February 20 as World Day of Social Justice, maintaining that this is “a fundamental principle for peaceful and prosperous coexistence.”

What is it?

Social justice is a complex concept that covers issues such as equality, opportunities, the welfare state, poverty, labor demands, feminism, and many others that have as their common goal the construction of a more equitable and less unequal society.

So, it is a concept based on the inequality between individuals and aims to end it so that people are on the same level.

It can be understood differently, but it always revolves around the idea that societies must change for the better, that is, towards more fair societies in distributing their wealth. It aims to reduce the margins of exclusion and discrimination and to combat poverty and inequality among citizens.

Social justice is a philosophical and political point of view that promotes the equitable distribution of opportunities and resources in society.

It is one of the most critical aspects of societies and peoples; it is a value that promotes respect equally among all the duties and rights that all individuals that make up a society have.

It focuses on the equitable distribution of all social goods to ensure dignity to the inhabitants, thus improving cohesion.

It is a principle related to social and individual life in the political community.

What we should know

• It is one of the many values that exist; however, it turns out to be the most important for society.

• It is responsible for ensuring the common well-being and that people can live harmoniously in society.

• Ensures a good balance between the individual and common good based on fundamental human values.

• Seeks to find equity in social issues.

• It is the flag of many political and social organizations and movements.

• It manifests protests in the streets and public spaces when the State does not guarantee or prove it within society.

In short, justice, equality, and freedom should be more than just words; they should be goals. Being a good man is not the same as being a good citizen; as I always say, there is no peace without justice.

Resoluciones de año nuevo

Publicado

el

Pongamos todo en las manos de Dios

¿En serio ya terminamos otro año?

¡Wow! Es increíble que cerremos el 2023.

No podemos quejarnos ¿verdad?

¿cómo me usará?

New Year’s resolutions

Let’s put everything in God’s hands

Are we seriously done with another year?

Wow! Incredibly, we closed 2023.

We can’t complain, right? Up to this point, we can say that God helped us, took care of us, and provided us with everything we needed, but now the questions and self-evaluations begin: what did I achieve this past year? Did I have any personal growth? What lessons does 2023 leave me?

But, we also begin to look forward, and another question arises: what do I want to achieve in this new year that I am about to start?

Christmas and New Year are my favorite times of the year. I know that I will be with my family, I will travel, give gifts, and the best thing is that I will cook and eat like crazy. On these dates, there are no limitations or diets, but at the same time, I cannot deny it; I start to think about what I want to achieve in the year that has just begun.

Resolutions, New Year’s resolutions, goals to achieve, objectives to achieve, and like many women, I think about exercising, eating healthy, saving, etc., but I also believe that all this is superficial and I have lacked a lot of discipline, I am honest, every year I think about it, but I don’t do it.

As a woman, mother, wife, businessperson, and minister of the word of God, I have understood and accepted that I can have many resolutions. However, I have decided to do something different; now, I want to know God’s purpose in my life for 2024.

I want to make plans by giving the Lord the place he deserves in my life and my new beginnings; I want to achieve achievable goals. The only thing I want, and perhaps it is my superior resolution, is to please God in 2024.

There is a biblical scripture that echoes in my mind and heart:

“Now listen to this, you who say: ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, and there we will spend a year doing business and making money,’ and you don’t even know what will happen to your life tomorrow! You are like a mist that appears for a moment and then disappears. They must say: ‘If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.’ Instead, you insist on speaking proudly, and all pride of that kind is evil.”

James 4:13-16

Wow! I don’t want you to stop thinking with excitement about the New Year, much less look indifferently at what’s coming on the contrary. Today, we can believe with great enthusiasm what God has for me in 2024. What is your perfect plan? How will he use me? What blessings do you have ready for me?

I don’t know about you, but looking at my creator gives me peace, faith, and hope. Because if I look at myself, I will be disappointed again.

I hope 2024 comes loaded with good things, but I want to focus on pleasing God with my words, actions, thoughts, and intentions, fully trusting that if my soul prospers, everything else will thrive.

If you have a long list of resolutions this year, let the first be to seek the kingdom of God and his justice as you have never done before to enjoy those additions.

Let’s put everything in God’s hands, take steps of faith, and seek his presence. We begin to be much better this year than the one we are ending.
