Esta asociación se ha convertido en un referente de servicio y apoyo para pacientes de cáncer en cualquiera de sus tipos

A lo largo de 31 años, Aprocancer ha sido parte de la batalla que más de 6 mil 600 personas han enfrentado en contra de cualquier tipo de cáncer, incluyendo el de mama, el más común entre la población femenina en México.

Fundado el 19 de febrero de 1992 como Apronicancer, esta asociación tenía como objetivo atender a niños cuyas familias no contaban con los recursos para pagar quimioterapias y consultas médicas tras el diagnostico de este padecimiento.

Sin embargo, en 1998 y tras la apertura del área de oncología en el Hospital Infantil, a donde fueron canalizados los menores, se incorporó la atención a personas adultas, a quienes se apoya hasta el día de hoy.

Más claro, Raquel Velázquez, administradora de Aprocancer, comenta a Visionarias que este lugar está enfocado en brindar los tratamientos necesarios y adecuados a las personas que no tienen recursos económicos o no cuentan con un seguro médico contractual, como lo es el IMSS o el Issste.

Pese a lo anterior, hay algunos asegurados a quienes también se les brinda el apoyo, pues saben de las largas esperas para dar cualquier atención en estas instituciones.

¿Cómo funciona?

Los requisitos para acceder a los servicios que Aprocancer ofrece son, tener primeramente el diagnóstico del padecimiento y realizar una solicitud de consulta médica, en la que el doctor de la asociación decidirá la opción a seguir en su tratamiento.

Luego, tras cumplir con los primeros dos puntos, se agendan las citas para las quimioterapias y el estudio socioeconómico, además, se solicita la documentación personal y médica; al final el voluntariado de la Asociación Protectora de Niños con Cáncer de Ciudad Juárez se dedica a la procuración de los recursos para continuar con la ayuda. En esa última etapa, la participación de las familias y amigos de los pacientes es de suma importancia.

¡Quiero ayudar!

Es gracias a la ayuda que esta asociación recibe, que se ofrece (además de las quimioterapias y consultas médicas) atención psicológica, guía tanatológica para que el paciente y sus seres queridos puedan aceptar el padecimiento, y fisioterapia, relajación y nutrición.

Precisamente para apoyar a la asociación, se organizan diversos eventos, entre ellos la conocida Córrele que no te Alcáncer, una competición próxima a llevar a cabo su segunda edición del año, el 15 de octubre a las 8:00 de la mañana en el Parque Central.

Antes, el 14 de octubre, se llevará a cabo el Zumbathon Aprocancer, en el Gimnasio Adaptado Lic. Benito Juárez a las 9:00 de la mañana.

Y aunque ambos eventos son gratuitos, hay una cuota de recuperación de 300 pesos, que incluye un kit conmemorativo en el que destaca una playera deportiva.

Pero, si por algún motivo no puedes participar de manera presencial en estas actividades, puedes ser un patrocinador mensual y realizar tus aportaciones a través de una transferencia bancaria, PayPal, la página de Internet y WhatsApp, o uno de los voluntarios puede recoger el donativo a domicilio.

“Queremos llegar a más personas, porque el cáncer no perdona ni religión, ni identidad, ni situación económica; estamos para ayudarles, estamos para servir a la comunidad juarense, y a todo el que necesite”, nos dice Raquel Velázquez, quien además nos presume la reciente inauguración de la unidad móvil en la que brindan estudios gratuitos de mastografía, papanicolaous, ultrasonidos y TCA.

Actualmente, en Aprocancer atienden a entre 25 y 30 personas por mes, entre ellas −además de fronterizos− a migrantes, rarámuris y pacientes de otras partes del estado, incluso del país.

Aprocancer, 31 years of putting up a fight

This association has become a benchmark of service and support for cancer patients in any of its types.

Throughout 31 years, Aprocancer has been part of the battle that more than 6,600 people have faced against any type of cancer, including breast cancer, the most common among the female population in Mexico.

Founded on February 19, 1992, as Apronicancer, this association’s objective was to assist children whose families did not have the resources to pay for chemotherapy and medical consultations after the diagnosis of this disease.

However, in 1998, after the opening of the oncology area at the Children’s Hospital, where the minors were referred, the association began to provide care to adults who are still supported.

More clearly, Raquel Velázquez, administrator of Aprocancer, comments to Visionarias that this place is focused on providing the necessary and adequate treatments to people who do not have economic resources or do not have contractual medical insurance, such as the IMSS or Issste.

Despite the above, some insured people also receive support since they know about the long waits for any kind of attention in these institutions.

How does it work?

The requirements to access the services offered by Aprocancer are, first, to diagnose the disease and to request a medical consultation, in which the doctor of the association will decide the option to follow in your treatment.

Then, after complying with the first two points, appointments for chemotherapy and a socioeconomic study are scheduled; personal and medical documentation is also requested. Finally, the volunteers of the Asociación Protectora de Niños con Cáncer de Ciudad Juárez are dedicated to the procurement of resources to continue with the help. In this last stage, the participation of the patient’s family and friends is of utmost importance.

I want to help!

Thanks to the help this association receives, it offers (in addition to chemotherapy and medical consultations) psychological care, thanatological guidance so that the patient and their loved ones can accept the illness, and physiotherapy, relaxation, and nutrition.

To support the association, several events are organized, among them the well-known “Córrele que no te Alcáncer,” a competition that is about to hold its second edition of the year on October 15 at 8:00 a.m. in Central Park.

Before that, on October 14, the Aprocancer Zumbathon will be held at the Benito Juarez Adapted Gymnasium at 9:00 a.m.

Although both events are free, there is a recovery fee of 300 pesos, including a commemorative kit and a sports t-shirt.

But, if you cannot participate in these activities in person, you can be a monthly sponsor and make your contributions through a bank transfer, PayPal, the website, and WhatsApp, or one of the volunteers can pick up the donation at home.

“We want to reach more people because cancer does not forgive religion, identity or economic situation; we are here to help them, we are here to serve the community of Juarez, and anyone in need,” says Raquel Velázquez, who also boasts the recent inauguration of the mobile unit in which they provide free mammography, pap smears, ultrasounds, and CAT scans.

Currently, Aprocancer treats between 25 and 30 people per month, including migrants, Rarámuris, and patients from other parts of the state, even the country.

Dirección Especializada en Violencia Familiar y de Género

El comandante Enrique Burciaga nos habla del trabajo que hace la Dirección Especializada en Violencia Familiar y de Género, de la cual él está al frente

Sólo en un mes, en la línea de emergencia de esta ciudad, se reciben mil 220 llamadas de auxilio realizadas por mujeres agredidas física, psicológica o emocionalmente, quienes son canalizadas para ser atendidas por personal de la Dirección Especializada en Violencia Familiar y de Género, de la Secretaría de Seguridad Pública Municipal (SSPM).

Encabezada por el comandante Enrique Burciaga Heras, esta área está enfocada en atender de forma prioritaria la violencia familiar y de género, la cual -por instrucciones del presidente municipal, Cruz Pérez Cuéllar- se ha fortalecido y ha incrementado su estado de fuerza.

Su titular

Enrique Burciaga Heras, es originario de Ciudad Juárez, tiene 38 años de edad y actualmente como director de la Dirección Especializada en Violencia Familiar y de Género tiene a su cargo a 90 personas. Entró a la SSPM en 2008 y sus primeras encomiendas eran como analista y agente de un equipo táctico de operaciones especiales.

Fue hasta 2016 que le fue asignada la Unidad Especializada en Violencia Domestica (Unevid), la cual lo llevó a capacitarse y a compartir con su equipo los conocimientos y experiencias aprendidos.

Sin embargo, la encomienda fue más personal, pues recuerda que en su vida familiar también existió este tipo de violencia.

“Mi madre fue víctima de violencia y no recuerdo que ella haya tenido la oportunidad de acercase, de que alguien le diera mayor acceso a la justicia, es parte de lo que a mí me hace trabajar en esto y difundir la información”, nos confía el comandante, quien espera ser un buen ejemplo para sus hijos, que sabe quieren imitarle.

Con una Fe, amor y compromiso

“Mi familia es Cristiana y creemos en Dios en hacer las cosas bien”, nos habló a Visionarias el comandante que su inspiración es trabajar y comprometerse con las mujeres y la familia, por eso es parte de su trabajo difundir la ayuda al acceso a la justicia a la ciudadanía de Cd. Juárez.

Cómo surge

“Comenzamos siendo una agrupación que pertenecía a la Dirección de Prevención Social y en esta administración se ha ido fortaleciendo y capacitando, profesionalizando a los policías para que den una mejor atención a las llamadas que llegan al 911 relacionadas a la violencia familiar y de género”, comenta para Visionarias el comandante Burciaga.

Fue el 7 de julio de 2023 que “debido a la necesidad que existe y basándose en las estadísticas”, Ciudad Juárez se convirtió en la sede de la primera Dirección de Policía Municipal en Atención a Mujeres de Víctimas de Violencia Familiar y de Género.

Esta dirección tuvo como objetivo, desde el primer momento, fortalecer las facultades y las capacidades del personal operativo de la SSPM para hacer frente a los llamados de violencia familiar, de género y contra de la mujer, que es como se catalogan dichos llamados en el 911, y que son los que más se reciben.

Qué hacer en caso de necesitar ayuda

Burciaga Heras informa a Mujeres Visionarias que cualquier víctima puede recibir ayuda por medio de dos vías.

La primera opción es a través del 911 del Centro de Respuesta Inmediata.

La segunda es el número que se encuentra en el material impreso el 656-381-0922, este es el número directo de la Dirección Especializada, esto en el caso de requerir una patrulla, que llegará al lugar indicado con sólo proporcionar nombre y dirección del lugar de los hechos.

Cabe agregar, que, aunque se comunique al número mencionado, la persona agraviada debe marcar al CERI 911para generar un folio que será de utilidad en caso de proceder legalmente contra el agresor.

El comandante también nos dice que una vez hecha la llamada a la Línea de Emergencia CERI 911se activa el Protocolo Policial de Atención a Mujeres Víctimas de Violencia, que canaliza el reporte a las patrullas de atención, las cuales acuden al lugar en primera instancia para entrevistar a los involucrados.

Una vez que se identifica quién es el agresor y quién es la víctima, se hacen las entrevistas correspondientes por separado y se comienza con el registro. Finalmente se hace la detención de la persona señalada y se canaliza a la agredida a un centro de atención donde recibirá asesoría.

“Un policía de la Dirección está capacitado para dar atención a las mujeres y una correcta orientación, ya sea jurídica o psicológica y poder ayudar mejor en la crisis”, dice el director, quien recuerda a las víctimas ratificar las denuncias ante Fiscalía, pues con la sola detención no inicia el proceso legal. También pide a las mujeres no tener miedo y confiar en esta instancia, la cual hace un seguimiento a las llamadas atendidas.

“La unidad con la que contamos en la SSPM tiene un personal muy comprometido y si existen situaciones que no son sus facultades tengan por seguro que vamos a ver la manera de tener una buena canalización hacia donde corresponde para darle una solución a su problema”, asegura.

Efectiva

Cada integrante de la Dirección Especializada en Violencia Familiar y de Género se encuentra en constante capacitación, acuden a diplomados de especialización en temas de violencia y son vigilados por un comité interinstitucional que evalúa las acciones que realiza esta área, la cual siempre escucha propuestas para mejorar los procedimientos, atención y mantener la certificación de los policías.

Por último la unidad cuenta con todo el personal comprometido hasta donde están sus facultades y harán lo posible por que la justicia llegue a las víctimas y si no se está dentro de sus facultades se llevarán con las respectivas autoridades para que la ayuda a la mujer y la familia sea efectiva.

Directorate Specializing in Family and Gender Violence

Commander Enrique Burciaga talks to us about the work done by the Specialized Directorate on Family and Gender Violence, of which he is the head

Only in one month, the city’s emergency hotline receives 1,220 calls for help from women who have been physically, psychologically, or emotionally assaulted, who are channeled to be attended by personnel from the Specialized Directorate for Domestic and Gender Violence of the Municipal Public Security Secretariat (SSPM).

Headed by Commander Enrique Burciaga Heras, this area is focused on prioritizing family and gender violence, which, on the instructions of the municipal president, Cruz Pérez Cuéllar, has been strengthened and has increased its state of force.

It’s head

Enrique Burciaga Heras, a native of Ciudad Juarez, is 38 years old and currently, director of the Specialized Directorate of Family and Gender Violence, is in charge of 90 people. He joined the SSPM in 2008, and his first assignments were as an analyst and agent of a special operations tactical team.

It was until 2016 that he was assigned to the Specialized Unit on Domestic Violence (Unevid), which led him to train and share the knowledge and experience he learned with his team.

However, the assignment was more personal, as he recalls that there was also this type of violence in his family life.

“My mother was a victim of violence, and I don’t remember her ever having the opportunity to get closer, for someone to give her greater access to justice; that is part of what makes me work on this and spread the information,” confides the commander, who hopes to be an excellent example for his children, who he knows want to imitate him.

With faith, love, and commitment

“My family is Christian, and we believe in God to do things right,” the commander told Visionarias that his inspiration is to work and commit to women and family, that is why it is part of his work to spread the help to access to justice to the citizens of Juarez.

How it came about

“We started as a group that belonged to the Directorate of Social Prevention and in this administration has been strengthened and trained, professionalizing police officers to give better attention to calls that come to 911 related to family and gender violence,” says Visionarias Commander Burciaga.

On July 7, 2023, “due to the need that exists and based on statistics,” Ciudad Juarez became the headquarters of the first Municipal Police Directorate in Attention to Women Victims of Family and Gender Violence.

This directorate’s objective, from the very beginning, was to strengthen the powers and capacities of the SSPM’s operative personnel to deal with calls of family violence, gender violence, and violence against women, which is how these calls are cataloged in 911, and which are the most frequently received.

What to do in case you need help

Burciaga Heras informs Mujeres Visionarias that victims can receive help through two channels.

The first option is through the 911 Immediate Response Center.

The second is the number found in the printed material 656-381-0922; this is the direct number of the Specialized Directorate, this in the case of requiring a patrol car, which will arrive at the indicated place by simply providing the name and address of the site of the facts.

It should be added that, even when calling the number above, the aggrieved person should dial CERI 911 to generate a folio that will be useful in the event of legal proceedings against the aggressor.

The commander also tells us that once the call is made to the CERI 911 emergency line, the Police Protocol for Attention to Women Victims of Violence is activated. This channels the report to the patrols, who go to the scene to interview those involved.

Once the aggressor and the victim are identified, the corresponding interviews are conducted separately, and the search begins. Finally, the person is arrested, and the victim is referred to a care center where she will receive counseling.

“A police officer from the Directorate is trained to provide attention to women and a correct orientation, whether legal or psychological and to be able to better help in the crisis”, says the director, who reminds the victims to ratify the denunciations before the Public Prosecutor’s Office, since the arrest alone does not initiate the legal process. He also asks women not to be afraid and to trust this instance, which follows up on the calls answered.

“The unit we have in the SSPM has a very committed staff, and if there are situations that are not within their powers, be assured that we will see a way to have a good channeling to where it corresponds to give a solution to your problem,” he says.

Effective

Each member of the Specialized Directorate of Family and Gender Violence is in constant training; they attend specialization courses on violence issues and are monitored by an inter-institutional committee that evaluates the actions carried out by this area, which constantly listens to proposals to improve procedures, attention and maintain the certification of police officers.

Finally, the unit has all the personnel committed to the extent of their faculties, and they will do their best to ensure that justice reaches the victims; if it is not within their faculties, they will take it to the respective authorities so that the help to the woman and the family is practical.

Alexia González, es una joven empresaria que está rompiendo estereotipos en la industria del transporte de carga en la frontera, quien está orgullosa de su equipo de trabajo.

Alexia es una mujer joven que busca seguir los pasos de sus padres en el negocio familiar y hacer que éste trascienda de generaciones. Estudió emprendimiento y mercadotecnia en Austin, Texas, se graduó de la carrera durante la pandemia y decidió mudarse a El Paso, TX.

Con tan sólo 25 años, Alexia González, es la gerente de operaciones de SILT, Servicio Internacional de Logística y Transporte, empresa que fundaron sus padres hace 29 años, la cual se dedica al transporte de insumos y productos de la industria maquiladora, nacional e internacionalmente, además de que pertenece CANACAR (Cámara Nacional del Autotransporte de México) en la cual funge como Secretaría Técnica y también colabora aquí en Cd. Juárez en CANACINTRA como Titular de Jóvenes Industriales.

Alexia se describe como una mujer muy hiperactiva, “desde chiquita siempre quise ser doctora, siempre quise ayudar a la gente, sólo que no sabía cómo”. La joven siempre estuvo involucrada en la empresa, y dentro de ella, pudo entender realmente que es el transporte de carga.

Rompiendo paradigmas

Alexia considera que ha roto el paradigma del transporte, que es solo para hombres, “yo estoy a cargo de todos los choferes, lo cual me ha ayudado a conocer y desempeñarse en el mundo de los hombres ”, señaló la joven empresaria.

El reto es mayor por ser mujer y joven

En una industria que es fuerte y competitiva a nivel mundial, para ella, fue un gran reto, por el hecho de ser mujer y muy joven, porque sentía que la gente dudaba de su capacidad, por ello, se involucró en diferentes áreas de la empresa, no sólo para demostrarle a los demás, sino también a sí misma, que si puede con dicha responsabilidad.

Inicios del negocio familiar

El emprendimiento comenzó cuando el padre Alejandro Gonzalez empezó el negocio con su primera compra de un camión. Su mamá Yadira Gonzalez lo apoyó para estructurar y darle forma a la empresa que estaban creando. Desde pequeña Alexia colaboró en ciertas áreas de la empresa, como facturación, después de terminar su carrera comenzó a desempeñarse en el área de mantenimiento, en diésel, servicio al cliente y posteriormente en operaciones.

“Nunca pensé dedicarme a esto, fue un reto para mí”, y a pesar de las barreras que se le presentaban, porque al inicio no entendía algunos términos, con el tiempo y al conocer más sobre el negocio, fue tomando mayor seguridad. “Ha sido una experiencia que me ha ayudado mucho a crecer personalmente”.

Después fue invitada a formar parte del comité juvenil de la Cámara Nacional de Autotransporte de Carga, Canacar, y en Canacintra. Alexia recordó que parte de los retos personales era  “me faltaba desenvolverse fuera de la empresa”, recordó sentirse muy cómoda, porque era más aceptada, pues ya no estaba en “un mundo de sólo hombres”.

Una líder empática

Cuando empezó a trabajar con operadores, pudo desarrollar su liderazgo, “me gusta escuchar y ser empática, porque soy muy consciente que sin mi equipo, no podría estar donde estoy”. Añadió que no quiere que la vean solo como la jefa, le gusta escuchar a su equipo y los admira porque a pesar de tener dificultades en su vida, aún así salen a trabajar para sacar a adelante a su familia.

Alexia mencionó que su meta es crecer profesionalmente, es decir, ser directora general, además de balancear el trabajo y su vida personal.

Dios en su vida

“En el trabajo y en la vida personal, a veces puedes sentirte perdido”, aunque antes no era tan cercana a la iglesia, este último año sintió la necesidad de acercarse más a Dios, “creo que Dios es luz y paz”, porque el negocio puede llegar a ser caótico, refirió entre risas.

Mensaje a las mujeres visionarias

Para Alexia “ser una mujer visionaria, es romper con todas las barreras y estereotipos”. Añadió que “como mujeres nos ven como una desventaja, pero yo creo lo contrario creo que tenemos mucho para dar, estamos capacitadas y entregadas a nuestro trabajo como a nuestra familia. En mi equipo la mayoría son mujeres, y yo las admiro porque son mamás, y creo que es una fortaleza como mujeres, que podemos hacer muchas cosas a la vez y no se nos viene el mundo encima”.

Alexia exhortó a las mujeres visionarias que se atrevan a desempeñarse en cualquier ramo o cumplir un sueño, además de que no tengan miedo de hablar y aportar nuevas ideas; especialmente en los negocios familiares, porque como una mujer, empresaria y joven, esto le ha permitido obtener un puesto como gerente y demostrar que realmente lo merece.

Alexia Gonzalez, breaking paradigms in the transportation industry

Alexia Gonzalez is a young entrepreneur breaking stereotypes in the freight transportation industry on the border and is proud of her work team.

Alexia is a young woman who seeks to follow in her parent’s footsteps in the family business and make it transcend generations. She studied entrepreneurship and marketing in Austin, Texas, graduated during the pandemic and decided to move to El Paso, TX.

At only 25 years old, Alexia Gonzalez is the operations manager of SILT, Servicio Internacional de Logistica y Transporte, a company founded by her parents 29 years ago, which is dedicated to the transportation of inputs and products for the maquiladora industry, nationally and internationally. She also belongs to CANACAR (Cámara Nacional del Autotransporte de Mexico), where she serves as Technical Secretary and collaborates here in Cd. Juarez in CANACINTRA as Head of Young Industrialists.

Alexia describes herself as a very hyperactive woman, “since I was a little girl, I always wanted to be a doctor; I always wanted to help people; I just didn’t know how.” The young woman was always involved in the company; she could understand what freight forwarding was all about.

Breaking paradigms

Alexia considers that she has broken the transportation paradigm, which is only for men, “I am in charge of all the drivers, which has helped me to know and perform in the world of men,” said the young entrepreneur.

The challenge is more significant for a woman and a young woman

In an industry that is strong and competitive worldwide, for her, it was a great challenge, being a woman and very young, because she felt that people doubted her ability, so she got involved in different areas of the company, not only to prove to others but also to herself, that she can handle this responsibility.

Beginnings of the family business

The venture began when her father, Alejandro Gonzalez, started the business with his first truck purchase. His mother, Yadira Gonzalez, supported him in structuring and shaping their company. Since she was a little girl, Alexia has collaborated in some company regions, such as invoicing. After finishing her degree, she began to work in the maintenance area, in diesel, customer service and later in operations.

“I never thought I would do this; it was a challenge for me,” and despite the barriers she faced, because at the beginning she did not understand some terms, over time and as she learned more about the business, she became more confident. “It has been an experience that has helped me grow personally.”

Later she was invited to join the National Chamber of Freight Transportation, Canacar, and Canacintra youth committee. Alexia recalled that part of the personal challenges was “I could not develop outside the company” she recalled feeling very comfortable because she was more accepted, as she was no longer in “a world of only men.”

An empathetic leader

When she started working with operators, she developed her leadership, “I like to listen and be empathetic because I am very aware that without my team, I could not be where I am.” She added that she does not want to be seen only as the boss; she likes to listen to her team and admires them because, despite having difficulties in their lives, they still go out to work to help their families.

Alexia mentioned that her goal is to grow professionally, that is, to become CEO, in addition to balancing work and her personal life.

God in her life

“In work and personal life, sometimes you can feel lost” although before she was not so close to the church, this last year, she felt the need to get closer to God, “I believe that God is light and peace” because business can be chaotic, she said with a laugh.

Message to visionary women

For Alexia, “To be a visionary woman is to break all barriers and stereotypes.” She added that “as women, we are seen as a disadvantage, but I believe the opposite; I think we have a lot to give; we are trained and dedicated to our work and family. Most of my team are women, and I admire them because they are mothers, and I think that is a strength as women, that we can do many things at the same time and the world does not come down on us”.

Alexia urged visionary women to dare to work in any field or fulfill a dream and not to be afraid to speak up and contribute new ideas, especially in family businesses, because as a woman, entrepreneur and young woman, this has allowed her to obtain a position as a manager and prove that she deserves it.
