Ser solidarios es practicar la compasión

La solidaridad es una cualidad que busca comprender y compartir el dolor ajeno, mientras que la compasión intenta aliviarlo. En esto último se diferencia la solidaridad de la empatía, que implica ponerse en el lugar del otro para entender lo que le pasa y siente, pero sin ayudarlo material, emocional o espiritualmente.
Ser movido a compasión describe la respuesta de Jesús a las profundas necesidades que él observaba.
“Jesús recorría todas las ciudades y aldeas, enseñando en las sinagogas de ellos, proclamando el evangelio del reino y sanando toda enfermedad y toda dolencia. Y viendo las multitudes, tuvo compasión de ellas, porque estaban angustiadas y abatidas como ovejas que no tienen pastor”.
Mateo 9:35-36
La solidaridad es lo que le permite al ser humano dejar, al menos por un instante, de pensar en sí mismo para pensar en el otro. La compasión es sinónimo de misericordia y establece una correlación entre sentir el sufrimiento ajeno y una acción destinada a remediarlo. Es un modo de acercarse al otro y sentir lo terrible de ese sufrimiento.
El alcance de la Solidaridad
“Ustedes han oído que se dijo: ‘amaras a tu projimo y odiarás a tu enemigo’. Pero yo les digo: ‘amen a sus enemigos y oren por los que los persiguen, para que ustedes sean hijos de su Padre que está en los cielos; porque él hace salir su sol sobre malos y buenos, y llover sobre justos e injustos. Porque si ustedes aman a los que los aman, ¿qué recompensa tienen? ¿No hacen también lo mismo los recaudadores de impuestos? y si saludan solamente a sus hermanos, ¿qué hacen más que otros? ¿No hacen también lo mismo los Gentiles (los paganos)? por tanto, sean ustedes perfectos como su Padre celestial es perfecto’”.
Mateo 5:43-48
La solidaridad debe ser una respuesta natural de aquellos que siguen las enseñanzas de Jesús, porque eso demuestra el amor y la luz de Dios. El amor y la luz no escogen sus receptores; están disponibles para todos aquellos que lo necesitan.
Sin solidaridad consciente, las comunidades se vuelven al aislamiento social, donde las personas andan hombro con hombro con multitudes, pero no se atreven a compartir su corazón con ninguna. La solidaridad es construir relaciones abiertas en una comunidad en crecimiento y desarrollo.
La inversión de tiempo y esfuerzo en mostrar solidaridad traerá beneficios a largo plazo que no pueden lograrse de ninguna otra manera: fuertes relaciones interpersonales y una comunidad sólida.
Tres principios para practicar la solidaridad
La verdadera solidaridad no es un hecho ocasional, sino una actitud que se muestra con regularidad. Podemos identificar tres principios que nos ayudarán a percibir la solidaridad como un deber cristiano.
1. El primer principio esconocer a los extraños, hasta que conocemos más acerca de los demás es que podemos entender e identificarnos con sus necesidades.
2. El segundo principio esreconocer la compasión como una responsabilidad.No deberíamos renunciar a la ayuda del necesitado y esperar que el gobierno o una organización se haga cargo de esto.
3. El tercer principio esabrir los ojos a las necesidades de los que están a nuestro alrededor.Nuestro mayor error es que caminamos por la vida con los ojos cerrados y no vemos las oportunidades.
Cómo ser solidarios
• Enfócate en nuestra gran deuda que tenemos con Dios.
• Amplia tu corazón con una lista de oración.
• Cambia tu sufrimiento personal por compasión hacia los demás.
• Busca formas de hacer bien a los demás.

Being in solidarity is practicing compassion
Solidarity is a quality that seeks to understand and share the pain of others, compassion tries to alleviate it. In the latter, solidarity is differentiated from empathy, which implies putting oneself in the place of the other to understand what is happening and feeling, but without helping him materially, emotionally, or spiritually.
Being moved with compassion describes Jesus’ response to the deep needs that he observed.
“Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.”
Mat 9:35-36
Solidarity is what allows the human being to stop, at least for an instant, from thinking of himself to think of the other. Compassion is synonymous with mercy and establishes a correlation between feeling the suffering of others and an action designed to remedy it. It is a way of getting closer to the other and feeling the terribleness of that suffering.
The scope of Solidarity
“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor[a] and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
Mathew 5:43-48
Solidarity should be a natural response from those who follow the teachings of Jesus because that shows the love and light of God. Love and light do not choose their recipients; they are available to all those who need it.
Without conscious solidarity, communities revert to social isolation, where people walk shoulder to shoulder with crowds, but dare not share their hearts with any. Solidarity is building open relationships in a growing and developing community.
Investing time and effort in showing solidarity will bring long-term benefits that cannot be achieved in any other way: strong interpersonal relationships and a strong community.
Three principles for practicing solidarity
True solidarity is not an occasional event, but an attitude that is regularly displayed. We can identify three principles that will help us to perceive solidarity as a Christian duty.
- The first principle is to know strangers, until we know more about others is that we can understand and identify with their needs.
- The second principle is to recognize compassion as a responsibility. We should not give up helping the needy and expect the government or an organization to take care of this.
- The third principle is to open our eyes to the needs of those around us. Our biggest mistake is that we walk through life with our eyes closed and we do not see the opportunities.
How to be supportive
- Focus on our great debt to God.
- Expand your heart with a prayer list.
- Trade your personal suffering for compassion for others.
- Look for ways to do good to others.
