Cuatro comportamientos que podrían provocar el divorcio

Publicado

Four behaviors that could lead to divorce

Have you ever wondered which couple problems are eternal and which can be solved, which are the four “behaviors” that ensure marital failure, or how to maintain love?

Dr. John Gottman, who since 1970 has studied marital relationships, discovered what he calls “The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse”, since he and his team found that, if the couple relates through discussions and fights, 80% of the time they continue to behave this way, while 69% of the time, they never solve the problems, which become “eternal”.

Dr. Gottman describes as the first horse, criticism: negative opinions about the spouse’s being way, for example “you never ask my opinion”, which can be avoided by allowing the spouse to correct the mistake.

There is also contempt, sarcasm, cynicism. Name-calling and teasing are attitudes that manifest displeasure and hurt the other, guaranteeing divorce. One way to amend this characteristic is to remember how your relationship began.

Another is defensiveness, blaming the spouse for any problem, such as:

– Did you call the Gonzalez to come to the barbecue?

– No, why didn’t you call them?

Which is avoided by accepting responsibility.

Finally, there is avoidance, where a “wall” is put up towards the partner, who also does not respond to comments or acts as if he/she doesn’t care about what the other says, which ignites mutual aggression, causing nefarious behavior.

According to Gottman, in 85% of the cases, it’s the men who engage in this behavior, however, if it’s the woman who evades, it is a high possibility that the couple will separate.

One way to avoid this is to stop the discussion so that the mood calms down and both partners relax, and then resume the conversation in a much calmer way.

If both spouses heed the doctor’s advice, they will have a marriage for life.

Let’s be married for life

With understanding, contentment, and empathy, let’s keep a commitment forever

Most couples enter into marriage because they feel they are in love and the partners can no longer be separated. The first of several stages is engagement; therefore, they need to anticipate it to experience it with others.

After courtship, we then move on to marriage, where we move from expectation to reality. When infatuation is canceled as a simple starting emotion and becomes a life commitment, we can see our marital reality with understanding, contentment, and empathy.

After the above, we can move on to the stage of married life, “the blessing of synergy.” At this stage, many get stuck as personal interests, differing opinions, guilt, and selfishness make their catastrophic entrance into the couple’s life. But synergy, that is, considering ourselves as a team in all situations, will make us strong and mature to be satisfied and feel truly blessed, and it is then that a new stage emerges.

The celebration of always seeing that together we can be, as the scriptures say, “Two are better than one” (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12) and “Love never ends” (1 Corinthians 13:8-10).

We may go through the stages of first-time parenting, raising children to the stage of youth, the empty nest, and so on, but it is vital to successfully pass through each of them, to convert from being one to being forever.

Conflictos matrimoniales por terceras personas

Publicado

Marriage conflicts by third parties

A situation like this can add emotional stress, tension, and instability to the relationship and could even end it

Conflicts, in general, are inevitable since all couples are made up of two people who have lived in different backgrounds, cultures, and traditions; these disagreements, at the same time, are part of coupling, maturity, and mutual growth.

When third parties cause these conflicts, it is different.

Third parties in a relationship add a factor of emotional stress, tension, and instability, which in turn produce a downward spiral that ends the relationship.

By third parties, I mean any individual who enters an existing relationship; They can be family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, or strangers.

Conflicts over a third person begin when the couple has broken the bond and added someone else to the relationship, who sometimes intervenes in decision-making, affecting the couple’s internal perception. This produces a triangulation that ultimately leads to conflicts.

We must establish healthy limits, effective communication channels, and clear expectations to prevent third parties from affecting the relationship between the couple.

Furthermore, we must always honor the relationship with our partner and create a safe environment full of peace, trust, and understanding. Respect and celebrate our differences in perceptions since we all have different lenses to see reality, which does not speak of being right or not but of learning and valuing diverse points of view, respecting them, to avoid looking out the window looking for other people who validate us and bring their ideas to our relationship.

Friends all the time

Married couples who achieve this connection enjoy each other’s company and seek each other’s well-being without expecting anything in return

I think we all like to have friends we can count on all the time, as it is commonly said, “in good times and bad,” unconditionally, and we look for the same in our partners.

Courtships generally begin because there is an attraction, whether physical or emotional, but with treatment, they can become great friends, and when consolidated, they join in marriage.

Some think that when you get married, that friendship ends, and it shouldn’t be that way. The best marriages are those that fall in love but also choose to remain friends because you can continue telling them anything, even your most profound thoughts, without fear of rejection.

Marriages where both manage to be excellent friends have so many things in common that they greatly enjoy each other’s company; they are always looking for the well-being of the other without expecting anything in return.

In true friendship, you can find trust, understanding, encouragement, support, solidarity, laughter, someone to share triumphs and failures with, and a shoulder to cry on. We also look for those who sincerely care, appeal, advise, conversation… and so we can continue with a long list.

Who do you consider? Do you know him much better?

That great friend is or could be our husband; he has to top the best friends list. In the Bible, in the book of Proverbs chapter 17, verse 17, it says, “A friend loves at all times and is like a brother in time of trouble.” if our husband is our best friend, we are sure that we can count on him in those times. There are difficult times in life, and I know he will not abandon me but be there by my side.

Often, couples need to realize the value of being friends between spouses. The Bible says in the Book of Songs chapter 5, verse 16, “Such is my beloved, such is my friend.” once the wife praises the husband for all his qualities, they enjoy being friends all the time.
