Nena Leal: Una salmista apasionada de Dios y de las almas

Hablar de Nena Leal, es hablar de entrega y una trayectoria amplia en la música cristiana.
Ella es Denis Leal Garza y su nombre artístico “Nena” se debe a la manera cariñosa en que la llamaba su padre, “mi padre siempre me decía Nena y Nenita y así se quedó, y recuerdo que cuando Dios me llama al ministerio en mi primera grabación, yo iba a firmar como Denis Leal, pero uno de los hermanos que nos movía en ese tiempo me dice, ‘no Nena a ti te conocen como Nena’, y no se diga más me voy a quedar con Nena Leal”, comentó la cantante con una sonrisa en su rostro.
Con más de 35 años de carrera, la historia de Nena se origina cuando Dios la alcanza y ella comienza a evangelizar a su esposo, Miguel Eleazar Leal, quien también es alcanzado por la palabra del Señor y al poco tiempo ambos son llamados al ministerio.
“Al principio no quería, se le hacía imposible vivir por fe, él estaba acostumbrado a mantener la familia a través de su trabajo, él era electricista, pero cuando Dios nos llamó le dije ‘Miguel tenemos que hacerlo’”. Ahí comenzó el ministerio familiar que poco a poco dio frutos.
Los frutos de la fe
“Cuando es un llamado del Señor nunca te deja”.
Uno de los primeros retos a los que se enfrentaron fue el financiero, ya que de percibir un sueldo fijo y en tiempos determinados, ahora la familia Leal con sus cuatro hijos vivía con lo que se generaba de las ministraciones que realizaban en los poblados cercanos.
“A mí me gustan los retos, porque con la ayuda del Señor todo se puede”, agregó.
Fue Geovanna, su hija mayor, la primera en grabar un disco cuando apenas tenía 8 años, decisión que no le sorprendió ya que señala era algo que se veía venir, “a ella desde niña le gustó cantar, siempre estaba a mi lado”, dice nuestra entrevistada.
Tiempo después la sorpresa la dio su hija Verónica, “me impresionó mucho, ella empezó a los 16 años, y dije: ¡wow, que bueno!”.
Después su hija menor Mayra realizó su primera grabación a los 12 años y por último Miguel, su hijo, entró de lleno en el mundo de la música, “son los que menos pensaba, pero gracias a Dios allí mostró su favor para con la familia”, nos comparte Nena.
El dejar que sus hijos eligieran fue parte fundamental del éxito, ya que ella y su esposo buscaron enseñarles los valores de la fe, no sólo con las palabras sino con el ejemplo de vida que ellos a cada día practican, lo cual asegura dio frutos.
“Dios bien lo sabe que siempre fue algo que inició en sus corazones, yo no sé si ellos vieron la pasión que mi esposo y yo siempre tuvimos con el Señor y ver las almas convenirse a Cristo, creo que fueron muchos factores que creo que Dios los ilumino a ellos y les dio el sentir de cantarle”.
Ser salmista se logra con pasión
Explica que para poder dedicarse a la música hay que tener pasión “que tiene que estar por Cristo y por las almas, si no la tienes salte, porque no está fácil, aquí no podemos hacerle al mediocre”.
Agrega que como humanos todos estamos prestos a fallar, pero es muy diferente a vivir en la mediocridad, la cual de conservarse no deja que la persona dé resultados.
Sus canciones no habrían tenido éxito si su mirada y corazón no hubiera estado en Dios. Entre sus canciones más conocidas se encuentran “El Alfarero” y “Alas de Paloma”, las que, asegura, más vidas han tocado.
El antes y después
Pese a los obstáculos que ha tenido que vivir no ha dejado de trabajar y vivir en Dios a cada paso que da, la partida de su esposo los desorientó, pero sus enseñanzas, el amor, el apoyo que brindó y sobretodo su ejemplo de fe los mantiene listos y con la esperanza de un día verlo otra vez.
“Una de las cosas que yo me he propuesto es la unidad, entre mis hijos y nietos como siempre estuvimos a su lado, ahora en nuestros corazones debemos mantenernos unidos y caminando juntos, derechos en lo que nos dice la palabra de Dios”.
Precisamente ahora es a los nietos a quien con sabiduría trata de llevar por el camino de Dios. Nena nos presume el privilegio de ser una abuela consentidora de ocho varones y una niña, esta última la favorita de toda la familia.
Nos comenta que con sus nietos mayores platica mucho de las cosas de Dios, “tengo que ser muy sabia, tengo que saber que les voy a contestar… cuando ellos me hacen preguntas tengo que estar dos pasos adelante”, para lo cual hace uso de su lógica espiritual, mientras que con los más pequeños lo único que hace es jugar, pero sin dejar de enseñarles acerca de la moral y la grandeza de Dios.
Nena quiere que su decendencia la recuerde como una abuela vencedora, guerrera, trabajadora, que nunca se venció en las cosas de Dios y que a pesar del tiempo siempre cantó, salió y predicó, acciones que por lo menos, le gustaría, que dos de sus nietos repliquen.
“Aparte de Dios, es mi familia… los amo con toda mi alma”, dice Nena, quien además se describe como una abuela muy humana y apasionada del Señor.
Los logros
Sus principales logros pueden enumerarse desde que ganó a su familia para Cristo, y desde ahí el cúmulo de éxitos se han ido acumulando.
“Me convertí a los 14 años… mi familia está en el Señor, y uno de los logros más grandes es que Dios me haya elegido para viajar por el mundo para llevar el mensaje a través de la música”, comentó.
Agrega que otros de los logros es conocer los testimonios de cómo la gente recibe salvación y sanidad a través de sus canciones.
“Tú lo acabas de ver, se me acercó un hermano diciéndome que su esposa sanó a través de uno de mis cantos, entonces eso para mí es un logro, es un triunfo y una gran bendición a mi vida, yo creo que Dios se pone contento con esto” dijo con la voz quebrada y los ojos llorosos.
Agregó que este tipo de testimonios son un aliento que la motiva a seguir adelante, y sobre todo le dicen que está haciendo las cosas bien.
“Soy una mujer realizada en el Señor, plena, segura de mi misma, muy agradecida con Dios, porque de pronto me detengo y veo todo lo que hemos hecho y me siento agradecida con Dios porque sólo Dios lo puede hacer”.
Agrega que su mente no alcanza a comprender lo que Dios ha hecho a través de su ministerio y el de sus hijos, pero sabe que ha llegado a donde jamás imagino “Centro América, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Panamá, Costa Rica… Chile; hasta a Europa hemos llegado a cantar, todo México y Estados Unidos, El Caribe”.
En lo poco que le he sido fiel yo espero que me ponga en lo mucho”, pide Nena Leal a Dios.

Nena Leal: A psalmist passionate about God and souls

To speak of Nena Leal is to talk about dedication and a broad trajectory in Christian music.
She is Denis Leal Garza, and her stage name “Nena” is due to her father’s affectionate way, “my father always called me Nena and Nenita, and that’s how it stayed. I remember when God called me to the ministry in my first recording, I was going to sign as Denis Leal, but one of the brothers who moved us at that time told me, ‘no Nena, you are known as Nena,’ and never again I will stay with Nena Leal,” said the singer with a smile on her face.
With more than 35 years of career, Nena’s story originates when God reaches her, and she begins to evangelize her husband, Miguel Eleazar Leal, who is also run by the word of the Lord and soon after, both are called to the ministry.
“At first, he did not want to; he couldn’t live by faith; he was used to supporting the family through his work, he was an electrician, but when God called us, I told him, ‘Miguel, we have to do it.” That was the beginning of the family ministry that, little by little, bore fruit.
The fruits of faith
“When it’s a calling from the Lord, it never leaves you.”
One of the first challenges they faced was financial, since from receiving a fixed salary at set times, now the Leal family with their four children lived on what was generated from the ministrations they made in the nearby towns.
“I like challenges because, with the Lord’s help, everything is possible,” he added.
It was Geovanna, her eldest daughter, who was the first to record an album when she was only eight years old, a decision that did not surprise her since she said it was something she saw coming, “since she was a child she liked to sing, she was always by my side,” says our interviewee.
Sometime later, her daughter Verónica surprised her, “I was very impressed, she started when she was 16 years old, and I said: wow, that’s great!
Then her youngest daughter Mayra made her first recording at the age of 12, and finally, Miguel, her son, entered fully into the world of music, “they are the ones I thought the least but thank God there he showed his favor to the family,” shares Nena.
Letting her children choose was a fundamental part of her success since she and her husband sought to teach them the values of faith, not only with words but also with the example of life that they practice every day, which she assures has borne fruit.
“I don’t know if they saw the passion that my husband and I always had for the Lord and to see the souls being convinced to Christ; I think there were many factors that I believe that God enlightened them and gave them the feeling to sing to Him.”
Being a psalmist is achieved with passion
He explains that to dedicate oneself to music, one must have passion “that has to be for Christ and the souls if you don’t have it jump, because it is not easy, here we cannot do the mediocre.”
He adds that as humans, we are ready to fail, but it is very different to live in mediocrity, which, if kept, does not allow the person to give results.
His songs would not have been successful if his eyes and heart had not been on God. Among his best-known songs are “El Alfarero” and “Alas de Paloma,” which, he assures, have touched the most lives.
Before and After
Despite the obstacles she has had to live through, she has not stopped working and living in God at every step she takes. Her husband’s departure disoriented them, but his teachings, the love, the support he gave and above all, his example of faith keep them ready and hopeful of one day seeing him again.
“One of the things that I have proposed to myself is unity, between my children and grandchildren as we were always by his side, now in our hearts, we must stay united and walk together, right in what the word of God tells us.”
Precisely now, it is the grandchildren whom she tries to lead with wisdom on the path of God. Nena boasts the privilege of being a spoiled grandmother of eight boys and one girl, the latter being the favorite of the whole family.
She tells us she talks a lot with her older grandchildren about the things of God. “I have to be very wise; I have to know what I am going to answer them when they ask me questions; I have to be two steps ahead,” she says. She uses her spiritual logic, while with the younger ones, all she does is play, but without ceasing to teach them about morality and the greatness of God.
Nena wants her descendants to remember her as a victorious grandmother, warrior, and hard worker who never gave up on the things of God and who, despite the time, always sang, went out and preached, actions that at least she would like two of her grandchildren to replicate.
“Apart from God, it is my family… I love them with all my soul,” says Nena, who also describes herself as a very human grandmother and passionate about the Lord.
Achievements
Her main accomplishments can be listed since she won her family to Christ and accumulated successes.
“I was converted at the age of 14… my family is in the Lord, and one of the greatest achievements is that God has chosen me to travel the world to take the message through music,” she said.
She adds that another of her achievements is knowing testimonies of how people receive salvation and healing through her songs.
“You just saw it, a brother came up to me telling me that his wife was healed through one of my songs, so for me, that is an achievement, it is a triumph and a great blessing to my life; I believe that God is happy with this,” she said with a broken voice and teary eyes.
She added that these testimonies are an encouragement that motivates her to keep going forward, and above all, they tell her that she is doing things right.
“I am a fulfilled woman in the Lord, full, sure of myself, very grateful to God, because suddenly I stop and see everything we have done, and I feel grateful to God because only God can do it.”
She adds that her mind cannot comprehend what God has done through her ministry and that of her children, but she knows that she has reached places she never imagined “Central America, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Panama, Costa Rica… Chile; we have even sung in Europe, all of Mexico and the United States, the Caribbean”.
In the little I have been faithful to Him, I hope He will give me a lot,” Nena Leal asks God.
She ends with the verse from Galatians 6:9 (RV1960) “Let us not grow weary in doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”
Gabriela Acosta es una mujer trabajadora y valiente, que ha sabido balancear su profesión y su rol de madre.
Gabriela Acosta Camacho, es trabajadora social de profesión y es madre de dos hijas, Sofía y Regina De La Parra, nació en la Ciudad de México y desde pequeña llegó a Ciudad Juárez.
Actualmente, es Subdirectora de Servicio Social y Acción Comunitaria de la Dirección General de Extensión y Servicios Estudiantiles en la Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez, con más de 40 años de antigüedad en la institución.
Ser madre es una bendición
Gabriela considera que ser madre es la bendición más grande, “yo tuve una madre ejemplar, que me dio Felicidad y me inculcó valores y el amor a Dios, así como el amor al prójimo ayudando a los más necesitados, yo también quise tener esa bendición, teniendo a mis hijas”.
Gabriela Acosta siempre busco ser un ejemplo para sus hijas enseñándoles que para salir adelante y poder enfrentar adversidades deben prepararse y tener conocimiento de todos los aspectos de la vida, así mismo que una mujer puede ser independiente y no depender de un hombre para ser feliz y exitosa, consideró que esa parte fue fundamental.
Retos de ser madre soltera
Gabriela relató a Mujeres Visionarias, que uno de los retos más grandes a los que se enfrentó fue, independizarse después de un divorcio. En aquella época, ella era representante de la UACJ en la Ciudad de México, por lo cual, decidió regresar a esta frontera, empezando de cero, teniendo las puertas abiertas de la universidad, su profesión, y el respaldo de su familia.
Dedicada por completo a sus hijas, cuando ellas crecieron, siempre la apoyaron anímicamente diciéndole que tuviera un compañero de vida
Ahora se encuentra felizmente casada, con Jorge Quintana, “un hombre maravilloso, que me respeta, apoya y me tiene enamorada”, señaló la profesionista.
Indicó que, en un futuro desea explorar otros ámbitos, porque es una mujer que le gusta superarse, crear, viajar, desea conocer otros países y otras culturas.
Considera que, su mayor éxito ha sido poder compaginar su trabajo con su familia, la educación de sus hijas fue su prioridad, siempre respetando los espacios y tiempos
Dios en la vida de Gabriela
“Para mí Dios es todo, creo que, sin él, nosotros no somos nada, ni nadie, así de sencillo, es mi fuerza, es lo que me motiva, cuando yo estoy decayendo en algo, o que tengo un problema, inmediatamente me aferro a él”, declaró Gabriela.
“No están solas”
Aconsejó a las mujeres que están pasando por un divorcio y que se sienten solas, “no están solas, si ellas deciden buscar a Dios nuestro señor, él va a estar ahí, abriéndoles su corazón, sus manos, recibiéndolas con sus brazos, así me sentí yo, protegida, querida por Dios”.
Gabriela es una mujer valiente, de retos, pues demostró que tenía capacidades, y lo que parecía imposible, lo fue logrando, ella nos dice lo que es una mujer visionaria: “una mujer visionaria es una persona que tiene metas, que se pone objetivos que cumplir y que ve siempre hacia el futuro de una manera positiva, una mujer visionaria no puede ser una persona negativa, al contrario, siempre tiene que ver el horizonte, nunca para atrás y si tiene algún problema va a saber cómo resolverlo”, mencionó Gabriela.
Con estas palabras, Gabriela cierra nuestra entrevista, un mensaje de admiración y reconocimiento hacia todas las mujeres que son madres: “Quiero felicitar a todas las mujeres que Dios les dio la bendición de ser mamás y que han enfrentado alguna situación difícil.

Being a Mother is a Blessing
Gabriela Acosta is a hardworking and courageous woman who has successfully balanced her profession and her role as a mother.
Gabriela Acosta Camacho is a professional social worker and mother of two daughters, Sofía and Regina De La Parra. She was born in Mexico City and moved to Ciudad Juárez at a young age.
Currently, she is a teacher, serves as the Assistant Director of Social Service and Community Action at the General Directorate of Extension and Student Services at the Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez (UACJ) with over 40 years of experience at the institution.
Being a mother is a blessing
Gabriela believes that being a mother is the greatest blessing. “I had an exemplary mother who gave me happiness and instilled in me values and love for God, as well as love for others by helping those most in need. I also wanted to have that blessing by having my daughters.”
Gabriela always aimed to be an example for her daughters, teaching them that to succeed and face challenges, they must prepare themselves and have knowledge in all aspects of life. She also emphasized that a woman can be independent and not rely on a man to be happy and successful, considering it a fundamental aspect.
Challenges of being a single mother
Gabriela recounted to Mujeres Visionarias that one of the biggest challenges she faced was becoming independent after a divorce. At that time, she was a representative of the UACJ in Mexico City, so she decided to return to this border city, starting over with the support of the university, her profession, and her family.
Completely devoted to her daughters, when they grew up, they always emotionally supported her by encouraging her to find a life partner.
She is now happily married to Jorge Quintana, “a wonderful man who respects me, supports me, and has me in love,” said the professional.
She mentioned that in the future, she wishes to explore other areas because she is a woman who likes to improve herself, create, travel, and learn about different countries and cultures.
She considers her greatest success to have been balancing her work with her family; her daughters’ education was her priority, always respecting their space and time.
God in Gabriela’s life
“For me, God is everything. I believe that, without Him, we are nothing or nobody, as simple as that. He is my strength, motivating me when I am struggling or facing a problem. I immediately turn to Him,” declared Gabriela.
You are not alone
She advised women going through a divorce who feel alone, “If they decide to seek God our Lord, he will be there, opening his heart, his hands, receiving them with his arms, that’s how I felt, protected, loved by God.”
Gabriela is a brave woman, a woman of challenges, because she demonstrated that she had capabilities, and what seemed impossible, she achieved it.
For her, a visionary woman is: “a person who has goals, who sets herself objectives to achieve and who always positively looks to the future; a visionary woman cannot be a negative person; on the contrary, she always has to see the horizon, never backward and if she has a problem she will know how to solve it,” she mentioned.
Gabriela concludes our interview, expressing admiration and recognition for all women who are mothers: “I want to congratulate all women whom God has blessed with motherhood and who have faced difficult situations. And to thank Sophia and Regina for making me so happy to be their Mom”
La licenciada Nidia Quezada es coordinadora de Enlaces con OSC en el DIF Municipal, la cual tiene como finalidad crear lazos entre la sociedad civil y el Gobierno Municipal de Juárez
Nidia Quezada Domínguez, es licenciada en Diseño de Interiores en la Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez (UACJ) y es orgullosamente madre de Emi Valentina Shiguetomi, de 12 años.
En el 2021, Nidia fue invitada a participar en el Gobierno municipal de Ciudad Juárez, inició en la Coordinación de Relaciones Públicas, un año y medio después, le ofrecieron la oportunidad de colaborar en el DIF municipal, en la Coordinación de Enlaces con Organizaciones de la Sociedad Civil (OSC), de dicha dependencia.
Función de la Coordinación de Enlaces
Una de las funciones más importantes es atender y enlazar a las asociaciones civiles con el DIF municipal y la comunidad en general.
La Coordinación se encarga de colaborar con las asociaciones civiles en su capacitación, por medio de talleres, cursos, conferencias y en diversos temas de interés, según la labor social que desarrollan, así como lograr la vinculación con el área empresarial de la localidad.
Importancia de mantener relaciones sólidas entre OSC y el Gobierno municipal de Juárez
Las Organizaciones Civiles son agrupaciones fundamentalmente constituidas por ciudadanos, en lazos asociativos, que realizan actividades de defensa y respeto a los derechos humanos, así como de apoyo o asistencia a terceros, sin fines de lucro y que no persiguen beneficios personales, sino sociales y comunitarios, por ello, es fundamental que el Gobierno trabaje de la mano con éstas, ya que éste es quien de manera organizada inscribe a las OSC y les brinda el apoyo, para que por medio de los programas que maneja, puedan acceder a apoyos económicos, estímulos públicos, gocen de incentivos fiscales y administrativos, reciban donativos o aportaciones en términos de las disposiciones fiscales y demás ordenamientos aplicables.
También, pueden recibir beneficios de convenios o tratados internacionales, para recibir asesoría, capacitación y colaboración por parte de las dependencias y entidades gubernamentales, para un mejor cumplimento de su labor social.
Desafíos como enlace de OSC
Nidia comentó que el mayor desafío es sólo la falta de comunicación o información, para enlazar a ambos sectores, para que de manera conjunta se trabaje en favor de la comunidad. Sin embargo, comentó que en base a su experiencia “la respuesta ha sido muy gratificante y positiva, ya que los juarenses tienen un deseo natural de servir y ayudar al prójimo”.
Impacto positivo en la comunidad
El DIF municipal de Juárez en colaboración con la Iglesia de “Jesucristo de los Santos de los Últimos Días” y por medio de la Coordinación de Enlaces con OSC del DIF, logró entregar apoyos en especie al albergue Kiki Romero, por alrededor de un millón de pesos en diciembre 2023.
Como institución, el DIF municipal tiene como objetivo principal brindar asistencia y protección a los más vulnerables de nuestra sociedad. Los migrantes representan uno de los grupos más necesitados en el mundo actual, ya que a menudo se encuentran lejos de sus hogares y enfrentan numerosos desafíos en su búsqueda de una vida mejor y más segura.
Señaló que, es fundamental para esta frontera tener albergues como el Kiki Romero; que les brinden un lugar seguro, alimentos y asistencia humanitaria, en el cual, los migrantes pueden encontrar un respiro, durante su difícil travesía. “Fue un honor atender, gestionar y supervisar esta comisión, tan importante para el Gobierno municipal de Juárez”, declaró Quezada.
Mujeres representan la mayoría
De manera conjunta se trabaja con las asociaciones civiles que, en su mayoría cabe resaltar son representadas por mujeres. “Me parece que las mujeres somos una columna vertebral, que da inicio en la familia y se extiende en la sociedad, hasta llegar a lo laboral, por ello, conocemos de esencia la problemática y necesidad de nuestra ciudad, por lo que, unidas contribuimos muy activa y fuertemente en el desarrollo de esta hermosa frontera”, dijo la funcionaria.
Equilibrar responsabilidades laborales y convivencia familiar
La coordinadora declaró que es una mujer creyente, “estoy segura de que Dios siempre me brinda la capacidad y energía de atender ambas cosas; procuro tener a mi hija conmigo, en los tiempos que el ejercicio de mi trabajo me lo permite y así mismo busco actividades en familia para compartir con ella”.
Retos como mujer
Nidia se ha enfrentado a algunos retos, pero el más reciente fue el fallecimiento de su padre, lo cual cambió totalmente su manera de aceptar los sucesos que le pasan en la vida y otro aún más difícil, ha sido enseñarle a su hija cómo debe adaptarse al cambio, hablarle de resiliencia.
Mensaje a las mujeres jóvenes
“La responsabilidad más grande es contigo misma, aprende a conocerte muy bien, ¿qué te gusta? ¿qué te molesta? ¿cómo quieres que se dirijan a ti?, Conoce tus límites, todas los tenemos, ten claro tus objetivos personales, tus metas laborales, busca amar tu soledad, tu espacio, para cuando decidas tener una pareja, la elijas con la mayor certeza de que complementará tu vida, nadie es media naranja, y estar en paz contigo misma, es la decisión más inteligente que puede tener una mujer”, mencionó Nidia.
Recordó la frase de Kiera Cass, “Cenicienta nunca pidió un príncipe. Pidió una noche libre y un vestido”. Por último, parafraseó la cita de G.D. Anderson, “el feminismo no se trata de fortalecer a las mujeres, las mujeres ya somos fuertes, se trata de cambiar la forma en que el mundo percibe esa fuerza”.
Creating bonds for the same goal
Nidia Quezada coordinates Links with CSOs in the Municipal DIF to create ties between civil society and the Municipal Government of Juarez.
Nidia Quezada Domínguez has a degree in Interior Design from the Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez (UACJ) and is the proud mother of Emi Valentina Shiguetomi, 12 years old.
In 2021, Nidia was invited to participate in the municipal government of Ciudad Juarez; she started in the Coordination of Public Relations, and a year and a half later, she was offered the opportunity to collaborate in the municipal DIF in the Coordination of Links with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) of that agency.
Role of the Coordination of Liaisons
One of the most important functions is to attend and link civil associations with the municipal DIF and community.
The Coordination is in charge of collaborating with the civil associations in their training through workshops, courses, conferences, and diverse topics of interest, according to the social work they develop, as well as achieving the linkage with the local business area.
Importance of maintaining solid relations between CSOs and the municipal government of Juárez
Civil Organizations are groups fundamentally constituted by citizens in associative bonds that carry out activities of defense and respect for human rights, as well as support or assistance to third parties, without profit purposes and that do not pursue personal benefits but social and community benefits. Therefore, the Government must work hand in hand with them. The government is the one that, in an organized manner, registers the CSOs and supports them so that through the programs it manages, they can access economic support public incentives, get tax and administrative incentives, and receive donations or contributions in terms of the tax provisions and other applicable ordinances.
They may also benefit from international agreements or treaties to receive advice, training, and collaboration from government agencies and entities to better fulfill their social work.
Challenges as CSO liaison
Nidia commented that the biggest challenge is more communication or information to link both sectors to work together for the community’s benefit. However, based on her experience, “the response has been very gratifying and positive since the people of Juárez have a natural desire to serve and help others.”
Positive impact on the community
The municipal DIF of Juarez, in collaboration with the Church of “Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints” and through the Coordination of Links with CSOs of the DIF, managed to deliver in-kind support to the Kiki Romero shelter for about one million pesos in December 2023.
As an institution, the main objective of the municipal DIF is to provide assistance and protection to the most vulnerable in our society. Migrants represent one of the most needy groups in the world today, as they are often far from their homes and face numerous challenges in their search for a better and safer life.
She pointed out that it is fundamental for this border to have shelters like the Kiki Romero; that provide them with a safe place, food, and humanitarian assistance, in which migrants can find respite during their difficult journey. “It was an honor to attend, manage, and supervise this commission, so important for the municipal government of Juarez,” stated Quezada.
Women represent the majority.
Work is carried out jointly with civil associations, most of which are represented by women. “It seems to me that women are a backbone, which begins in the family and extends in society until reaching the workplace. Therefore, we know the essence of our city’s problems and needs so that together, we contribute very actively and strongly to the development of this beautiful border,” said the official.
Balancing work responsibilities with family life
The coordinator declared that she is a woman of faith: “I am sure that God always gives me the capacity and energy to attend to both things; I try to have my daughter with me when my work allows me to do so, and I also look for family activities to share with her.”
Challenges as a woman
Nidia has faced some challenges, but the most recent was the death of her father, which changed her way of accepting the events that happen in her life, and another even more difficult one has been to teach her daughter how to adapt to change, to talk to her about resilience.
Message to young women
“The greatest responsibility is with yourself; learn to know yourself very well, what you like, what bothers you, how you want to be addressed, know your limits, we all have them, be clear about your objectives, your work goals, seek to love your solitude, your space, so that when you decide to have a partner, choose him with the utmost certainty that he will complement your life, no one is a better half, and being at peace with yourself, is the most intelligent decision a woman can have,” Nidia mentioned.
She recalled Kiera Cass’s quote, “Cinderella never asked for a prince. She asked for a night off and a dress.” Finally, she paraphrased G.D. Anderson’s quote, “Feminism is not about strengthening women—we women are already strong—it is about changing the way the world perceives that strength.”
