Ayudar en todo lo que le sea posible e incluso inventar tareas para mantenerse activa dentro de la iglesia Juan 14:6 que pastorea su marido, es parte del día a día de Socorro Chávez, una mujer visionaria que redescubrió a Dios a los 20 años de edad.
Socorro Magdalena, cuenta que fue a raíz de su llegada a esta frontera que decidió abrir su corazón a Cristo, quien le ayudó a superar un resentimiento que tenía hacia su madre, a la que sin duda amaba, pero con quien no tenía una relación estable.
Ya aquí, mientras también estudiaba, alguien le habló de Dios y le repetía constantemente “Cristo te ama y quiere cambiar tu vida”, palabras que aunque retumbaban en ella, no le gustaba que le dijeran, “hasta gordo me caía”, confiesa.
Sin embargo, terminó dando el paso y aceptó a Cristo como su salvador, “el amor de Dios me cautivó, me sentí ligera y perdonada”, dice Socorrito que después de aceptar la palabra del Señor, habló con su mamá.
“Mi guerra era interior, por fuera era moral, sonriente, platicadora, pero por dentro no, y ahí es donde Dios entra, cambia la vida y pone la paz en el corazón”, agrega.
Primer acercamiento con Dios
Antes de que su vida diera un giro, Socorro ya había tenido –sin saberlo– un acercamiento con el Señor, cuando uno de sus hermanos falleció, y sin que la familia lo supiera se había convertido a la fe cristiana. Él tenía 15 años.
Ella cuenta que a los días de la muerte del joven, la familia entera fue invitada a una misa donde una mujer se subió a orar, situación que a ella le pareció “rara” y aseguró al salir de ahí que “nunca sería como ellos”, sin imaginar que años después ella junto a su marido intercederían ante Dios a beneficio de la comunidad.
El matrimonio
Socorro confiesa que fue su esposo quien hablaba con ella sobre Dios cuando apenas tenía 20 años, y fue él quien le presentó el camino tal y como ahora lo conoce, “me ganó para Cristo y me ganó para él”, dice divertida.
Antes y después del matrimonio, Socorro siempre ha sido activa en las tareas de la iglesia, por lo que ella misma se busca qué hacer dentro de ella.
“A mi me encanta trabajar para Dios, aún cuando no era esposa de un pastor, yo siempre trabajé en todo lo que se podía… en lo que me pusieran yo estaba contenta, me encantaba, y si no me ponían yo me buscaba tareas que hacer”.
Ahora además de dar clases de escuela dominical y atender el comedor de los domingos por la mañana, junto al grupo de mujeres de la iglesia, también reparte despensas cada jueves a los más necesitados de la zona.
Su otra labor
Socorrito, como también es conocida, pertenece al Club de Leones, grupo con el que participa en el Centro de Reciclado y Distribución de Lentes (Ceredil), que regala anteojos a personas con errores refractivos en la vista, como miopía, hipermetropía, astigmatismo, y otros.
Cuenta que todas las personas pueden acceder al servicio, les hacen examen y en algunos casos sólo se piden 50 pesos de cooperación, por lo que invita a los interesados a obtener más información a través del teléfono 656-639-2609.
Por último, Socorro Chávez nos recuerda que acercarse a Dios es muy sencillo, “es nada más cerrar los ojos y decirle al Señor, empezar a hablar con él, y él es rápido para hacernos sentir su presencia” y agrega que “sin Cristo no somos nada, él es el que nos hace valer, el que nos da la vida, es el que nos provee de todo lo que tenemos, sin él nada somos, como dice su palabra: ni las hojas de los árboles se mecen si no es por su poder”.

“My war was internal, on the outside it was moral, smiling, talkative, but not on the inside, and that is where God enters, changes life and puts peace in the heart”, she adds.
First approach with God
Before his life took a turn, Socorro had already had – unknowingly – a closeness with the Lord, when one of his brothers died, and without the family’s knowledge he had converted to the Christian faith. He was 15 years old.
She says that a few days after the young man’s death, the entire family was invited to a mass where a woman went up to pray, a situation that seemed “strange” to her and makes her assured that “she would never be like them” , without imagining that years later she and her husband would intercede before God for the benefit of the community.
Marriage
Socorro confesses that it was her husband who spoke with her about God when she was barely 20 years old, and it was he who presented her the way as she now knows it, “he won me for Christ and he won me for him”, she says amused.
Before and after marriage, Socorro has always been active in the church’s tasks, so she looks for what to do within it herself.
“I love working for God, even when I was not the wife of a pastor, I always worked in everything I could … whatever they put me on I was happy, I loved it, and if they didn’t give me, I would look for tasks that do”.
Now, in addition to giving Sunday school classes and serving the dining room on Sunday mornings, ith the group of women from the church, she also distributes pantries every Thursday to those most in need in the area.
Her other job
Socorrito, as it is also known, belongs to the Lions Club, a group with which she participates in the Center for Recycling and Distribution of Lenses (Ceredil), which gives glasses to people with refractive errors in vision, such as myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, and others.
