Marlene Gonzalez

In the courtroom, lawyer, prosecutor and judge, nothing stops our interviewee, who found her second home in El Paso, Tx.

Puerto Rican by birth but from El Paso by adoption, for more than three decades, Judge Marlene Gonzalez has dedicated her time and effort to look out for the welfare of others, especially women and children in vulnerable situations.

It was in the year 2020 that attorney González won the election for the new judge of the Judicial District in El Paso County, a result of the work and experience that the Visionarias interviewee acquired over the years.

Her first decisions

González says that during the 1980s, she decided to leave the “Island of Enchantment” and accompany her husband to a new life in El Paso. Hence, she had to resign from her profession as an associate prosecutor of the Superior Court of Puerto Rico.

“As a faithful wife, I followed him (her husband) and arrived in this great city of El Paso,” she says.

After settling on the border and leading a quiet life, in which she was only moved by the service she performed in the name of God, Marlene validated her studies. She began working in the office of Attorney Joe Lucas as an assistant prosecutor in charge of the Domestic Violence Unit, which she did for four or five years.

But she decided to become independent and take on family cases at a certain point.

To achieve this, she took possession of an 1895 Victorian-style house, which she restored before the City of El Paso demolished it. That action gave her an award for the restoration work she did on it, which served as her office and refuge for those seeking a solution to their legal problems.

District Attorney and work for the community

But Marlene wanted more in her life, so years later, she decided to leave her office at 912 Magoffin Ave and seek a position as a district attorney, which she succeeded in and allowed her to delve into the life of the border community.

“I have always served the community… I am aware of what they need, and I roll up my sleeves to work”, says who assures that she studied law because she has always been fighting, “trying to do justice, helping humble people,” and adds, “I don’t like abuses, I don’t like inequalities, I believe that the rule should be the same for everyone.”

This is why Marlene, while seeking truth and justice in court, continued with her volunteer work in the schools of El Paso, where she takes – because she still does – backpacks and supplies for children who may need them, in addition to being part of several food banks.

In her different roles

And although it might sound easy, Marlene assures us that getting to where she is now was like grinding glass, especially with her male colleagues, who, as a woman, did not give her the support she deserved. She also assures us that she has had to balance her role as a lawyer, Hispanic woman, wife, mother, provider and community helper to practice how she has wanted to.

About the above, she amusingly comments that “sometimes they say that I am like a chicken without a head” however, that does not stop her, and she continues to fight, following her concepts: follow, persevere, fight and succeed, which she recommends to those who come to her for advice.

Currently, this visionary woman is Family District Court Judge Marlene Gonzalez. This position does not make her more special or better than anyone else because she knows that, leaving the court (her place of work), she is only the wife of Hector A. Hernandez and the mother of Julian and Andrew.

“I have not felt rejected; on the contrary, I have felt loved, I have felt accepted, even though I do not speak the same, I do not sing the same, but I speak the same language, and I have the same heart, the same blood, that is, we understand each other, and that has impacted me greatly,” which pushes her to move forward, not to stop and climb as high as she can in the pyramid of justice and thus be able to inherit a legacy to her family and community.

You can follow her on Facebook at Judge Marlene Gonzalez to learn more about her and her noble deeds.

“I am a Christian with fear of God. He is the one who guides me, comforts me and encourages me.”

A plane crash changed her life, which she gave to God that same day

Usually, humans turn to God when we find ourselves in an extreme emergency. Still, when we escape the difficulty, we forget about him and everything we promised him in exchange for helping us.

This was not the case for Rocío de la O, a woman who, at 17 years old, faced death and, upon defeating it, decided to give her life to Christ once and for all.

Now 62 years old and currently a pastor, she tells Visionarias that in the early hours of October 31, 1979, the plane in which she was traveling from Los Angeles to Mexico City exploded on the runway.

She remembers that the aircraft entered the wrong runway, where a truck was being repaired, and, unable to avoid it, crashed, causing the explosion. Of 97 passengers, only 13 survived, one of the fatalities being her first husband.

Life after the explosion

Although she thought she was going to die in that accident, the Lord did not want it to be that way; at that moment, her transformation and relationship with God began.

“They have been the best years of my life; he has given me everything… I am an extremely blessed woman in all areas of my life; I have gone through many processes. It has not been an easy path, but through all these years, God has “showed his love for my life supernaturally, in all the processes I have seen the hand of God again and again,” she says.

Another beginning

Two months after the accident, Rocío came to live in El Paso, Texas, where she met her now husband Jimmy, with whom she has been married for 39 years, although they have known each other for 43.

With him, she began assembling at the Assemblies of God, where they stayed for a decade, where she married and had two children (a man and a woman).

It was because of the two little ones that they decided to change churches; they were looking for one where there was a ministry for children. They stayed there for nine years until seeing the needs of others – and despite not wanting to pastor – they left their business and built their church.

Nuevo Pacto

For 25 years, Rocío and Jimmy have been at the head of the New Covenant Christian Church, a ministry that ranges from nurseries to children, adolescents, women, and couples. They also offer conferences, congresses, and other activities, among the most important of which are delivering food supplies to vulnerable people.

“We desire that people know about Christ, love the Lord, live a life that pleases God, with families and homes transformed, that people leave what religiosity is and know the love of God, that they can enjoy that freedom that one has in Christ, free from vices, free from problems,” says the interviewee.

“The desire is for people to be transformed from the inside out, to understand that there is always a better life.”

Regarding the delivery of pantries, she informs us that it takes place every Thursday at 4:00 in the afternoon and on Wednesdays after the ministry. They carry out this work with their resources, although sometimes they receive donations, which allows them to support other communities.

So, if you want to support the cause or look for a place where you can meet God, you can come to 1401 Lomaland Dr. on the corner of Pelicano Street in El Paso, Texas, where you will be welcomed by the people who will guide you along the way.

“If you want a transformed life, live to love God and to love people,” says Rocío, who now has the relationship with the Lord she always wanted.

During her pastoral work, Rocío shares how an intense life experience strengthened her faith. Hospitalized with COVID two years ago, she spent 19 days intubated and required a tracheostomy. Although she left the hospital six weeks later paralyzed, thanks to faith, prayers, and therapies, she managed to recover. This experience was another testimony of God’s love and mercy in his life.

“Always since I met the Lord, I have sought to have a close, intimate relationship with him… it means everything; he is everything to my life,” she concludes.

Women with Purpose

A group of true friendships at the service of God and the border community

A community supported by true friendship is how we can describe Women with Purpose, a ministry that Pastor Aida Mauricio has led for 34 years.

In an interview for Visionarias, Aida says that the objective of this group is to help and protect any Pastor who approaches them in search of emotional, spiritual, and even economic advice.

In Women with Purpose, “We all go through the same situation, and we understand each other, we support each other, and we don’t criticize each other,” she says.

She remembers having started this group with a few shepherds with whom they had the desire to get to know each other, protect themselves, and take care of each other, “we are friends, and that is the most important thing, the friendship within us,” mentions Mauricio, who also boasts of the union that has occurred… among those who make up Women with Purpose.

This union is so great that they even coexist outside the scheduled activities. As a leader, she is the one who plans, and the entire team organizes the events in which they seek to help and attract more women to the cause, for which they rely on the other shepherdesses, who have established jobs to achieve the day’s purpose.

“It is so beautiful to see them… the love with which they do it, precisely the most important thing. What unites us is love, and everything we do, we do for love,” she says excitedly.

Precisely, that emotion leads her to want other pastors to join her, who, in June 1991, took the first step after she realized that she needed a ministry of pastors to advise or guide her along the way… of help and service.

That is why, through this edition, our readers call, “We would like all the pastors from Ciudad Juárez and other parts to join this group… Mujeres con Propósito makes an open invitation to come, join, “They are going to see that we hug them, they are going to see that we receive them with love,” or if they prefer, she added, look for another group that will give them the help they need.

The above has the sole objective of fulfilling God’s call.

“For God, they are worth a lot; they are his most precious treasure, and if at any time, someone has rejected them, I want to tell them that God is love, the Lord loves them, and in this time, in this month, that is celebrated the Day of Love and friendship, the one who loves deeply is he,” says Aida Mauricio in her message, who reminds us that it was God, in the most outstanding example of his love for us, who gave his only son so that “we would have that salvation, which is free, is just saying ‘if you love me, I love you in my heart.'”

Templo La Hermosa, continúa con el legado

Publicado

Mensaje a mujeres visionarias

La Hermosa Temple, continues the legacy

Pastors Martin and Mercedes Garcia have served God for 20 years.

A couple of pastors, Garcia, have been serving in the La Hermosa temple for 20 years; they are currently leading the church, where they continue with the legacy that the Lord entrusted them.

Mercedes Rodriguez de Garcia is the wife of the pastor and communicologist Martin; she is also the mother of Ivonne and has two beautiful grandchildren, Valeria and Noah.

The pastor was born in Ciudad Juárez, and since she married Martín, she became his “ideal helper.”

She recalled that since his youth, the pastor received the call to serve God. He was a leader among young people, locally and nationally, and noted that since 2004, both began their work in the church. She had a theological preparation for three years.

Beginnings of the church

La Hermosa church was founded in 1968 by Gabino and Ivonne Guerrero, who served and were pastors there for 55 years until they passed the baton to the new generations.

About 50 women are trained in discipleship to share the gospel and their experience in God.

They work at a spiritual and church level, with significant participation inside and outside the church. Mercedes leads this program and is in charge of organizing and working with these women.

In addition, on Sundays at 11:00 a.m., there is a dining room and biblical teaching at the church level, mainly with children and adolescents. At the same time, on Thursdays, there is also a space for them in “La Hermosa Kids,” a space to invite and evangelize, and in which activities with biblical teachings, dynamics, and songs are carried out.

Although it has not been easy, because they are very conscious of the responsibility of serving God, they do it out of love for him and obey the call he gave them.

The pastor considered that currently, many women have problems of depression and abandonment, so they also have a unique ministry for women.

Vision of the temple

The vision of the La Hermosa temple is to help those who have no direction, need a word of encouragement, and are focused on “being a blessing also for our city,” said the pastor.

In 2024, the vision is to continue preparing the spiritual area and reaching souls for Jesus Christ through salvation and forgiveness, also about the baptism of the holy spirit and to continue with the vision and the great commission.

Message to visionary women

For 2024, the visionary women were asked to ask God for the desires of their hearts, “that this new year be full of blessings, and that the Lord greatly bless their lives.”

Finally, he thanked Mrs. Luz Maria Sotelo, director of Visionarias Magazine, for sharing her experience at the head of her ministry with others.

In Joshua 1:9, the Lord says, “See that I command you to be strong and courageous,” and thanks her for all the opportunities God has used to bless the lives of others.

La Hermosa Temple is located at 9620 Grafito Street, Altavista neighborhood, in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua.
