Valoremos el papel que el Señor nos ha dado y disfrutemos del privilegio que nos ofrece al cuidar de ellos
Los animales son, sin duda alguna, una parte muy importante de la creación. A lo largo de los siglos nos han sido de ayuda con su fuerza, nos han abrigado y dado alimento, además de compañía y alegrías. No sé qué haríamos sin ellos.
La Biblia está llena de pasajes que hacen referencia a muchos animales, algunos nos ayudan a conocer el carácter de Dios, por ejemplo, él nos llama sus ovejas y es nuestro buen pastor, Jesús es el león de la tribu de Judá y el cordero de Dios. Además, en distintos pasajes la Biblia señala comportamientos de los animales que nos sirven de ejemplo, como la diligencia de la hormiga; otros más nos muestran cómo fueron instrumento para cumplir propósitos divinos, tal es el caso de la historia de Jonás o de la burra de Balaam.
Dios tiene cuidado de su creación y nos invita a ser parte de esta labor. Los animales no fueron creados para ser usados indiscriminadamente para nuestro beneficio, es nuestra tarea cuidarlos y respetarlos e incluso podemos llegar a amarlos y sentirlos parte de nuestra familia, como es el caso de nuestras mascotas.
La palabra es clara sobre el papel que Dios nos ha dado como cuidadores y administradores de todo lo que hay en la tierra, incluyendo a los animales, siendo tan específica en pasajes como Proverbios 12:10 en el que señala que: “El justo cuida de la vida de su bestia; más el corazón de los impíos es cruel”.
Al mismo tiempo que Dios nos ha dado esta gran responsabilidad, que no debemos tomar a la ligera, también es claro en que nos ha hecho diferentes al resto de la creación, ya que hemos sido creados a imagen y semejanza suya (Génesis 1:26-27), por lo tanto, los creyentes debemos rechazar cualquier ideología que eleve el valor de la vida animal a la par o por encima de la del ser humano. Actualmente vivimos en una sociedad que salva huevos de tortugas y lucha por los derechos de los animales, al mismo tiempo que acepta el aborto y rechaza la idea de tener hijos; y aunque lo primero no esté mal, sino todo lo contrario, debemos guardar la correcta dimensión del valor de cada vida. (Lucas 12:24, Salmos 127:3) Valoremos pues el papel que Dios nos ha dado en su creación y disfrutemos del privilegio que nos da de cuidar a los animales.
Animals: God’s precious creation
Let us value the role the Lord has given us and enjoy the privilege he offers us in caring for them
Animals are, without a doubt, an essential part of creation. They have helped us with their strength throughout the centuries, giving us shelter, food, company, and joy. I don’t know what we would do without them.
The Bible is full of passages that refer to many animals; some help us to know the character of God; for example, he calls us his sheep and is our good shepherd, and Jesus is the lion of the tribe of Judah and the lamb of God. In addition, in different passages, the Bible points out behaviors of animals that serve as examples, such as the ant’s diligence; others show us how they were instruments to fulfill divine purposes, such is the case of the story of Jonah or Balaam’s donkey.
God takes care of his creation and invites us to be part of this work. Animals were not created to be used indiscriminately for our benefit, it is our task to take care of them and respect them, and we can even come to love them and feel them as part of our family, as is the case of our pets.
The word is clear about the role that God has given us as caretakers and stewards of everything on earth, including animals, being so specific in passages such as Proverbs 12:10 in which it points out that: “The righteous care for the life of his beast; but the heart of the wicked is cruel.”
At the same time that God has given us this great responsibility, which we should not take lightly, He is also clear that He has made us different from the rest of creation since we have been created in His image and likeness (Genesis 1:26-27). Therefore, believers should reject any ideology that elevates the value of animal life on par or above that of human beings. We currently live in a society that saves turtle eggs and fights for animal rights while accepting abortion and rejecting the idea of having children. Although the former is not wrong, quite the contrary, we must keep the correct dimension of the value of each life (Luke 12:24, Psalm 127:3). Let us value the role that God has given us in his creation and enjoy the privilege that he gives us to care for animals.
