Como una mujer de retos es como se describe Lourdes Domínguez, fundadora de Cibeles y ejemplo de la mujer chihuahuense
Para todos los que nacimos y crecimos en Ciudad Juárez un referente de celebración de alto estatus es sin duda el centro de eventos Cibeles, un lugar que se distingue por ser el escenario de importantes reuniones y festejos que dan realce a esta frontera.
Pero convertirse en un icono dentro de la comunidad no ocurrió de la noche a la mañana, se logró gracias a la visión, entrega y trabajo constante de una mujer visionaria que desde pequeña supo aprovechar las oportunidades.
Nacida en la ciudad de Chihuahua, pero juarense por adopción, la señora Lourdes Domínguez se desarrolló en una familia de comerciantes, comenzando por su abuela, quien era propietaria de la tienda de ropa más grande en la sierra del estado, mientras que su padre era un conocido empresario maderero. Entre ambos, nos cuenta, le inculcaron el emprendimiento y las bases para sacar un negocio adelante.
“Nunca me vi en un empleo, siempre me vi formando una empresa… siempre tuve claro que para mí eran los negocios, desde los 15 años”, nos dice quien también es madre de tres hijos y abuela de siete nietos.
A esta entrevista agrega que fue a los 21 años cuando creó su primera empresa, una cafetería que daba servicio a diferentes plantas maquiladoras, un reto que sacó adelante no sólo por su capacidad para identificar un negocio cuando se le presenta, sino gracias al apoyo de un equipo que supo liderar desde el inicio.
“Me gusta trabajar, formar equipos de trabajo, disfruto lo que hago y no me cansa… soy emprendedora por naturaleza, me gusta aprender, innovar, ponerme metas y cumplirlas, y también ponerle metas a los demás”, asegura, al tiempo que se describe como disciplinada, tenaz, aguerrida y sobre todo observadora.
“Me gusta mucho observar, observar qué sucede alrededor, la gente, las costumbres, las tendencias, el mundo, etcétera”, tanto que hasta cuando está de viaje analiza el panorama, por lo que no falta quien le comente “ya estás pensando en qué negocio poner”, dice divertida.
Sin embargo, aunque los números nos digan lo contrario, la situación en sus empresas no siempre ha sido la más satisfactoria, pues en todos sus años de experiencia se ha enfrentado a algunas crisis, las cuales ha tenido que sacar adelante, la última de ellas la pandemia por Covid-19.
“Los retos son diferentes todo el tiempo y los problemas hay que resolverlos (tal vez) no como quisieras, sino como puedas”, asegura doña Lourdes, quien también ha hecho frente a situaciones de cambios políticos, económicos, sociales, laborales y obviamente de competencia, por lo que además aconseja no bajar nunca la guardia, no importa la situación.
Al servicio de su comunidad
Lourdes Domínguez Arvizo, además de ser una exitosa mujer de negocios, ha sido parte de diferentes organizaciones civiles en las que apoya a la comunidad fronteriza, lo que la hace sentir una mujer privilegiada.
“Quienes hemos tenido privilegios debemos de estar apoyando siempre a los otros”, nos dice, y reconoce que desgraciadamente en este país no todas las mujeres pueden tener las mismas oportunidades, pues aún existen lugares en México donde ser mujer es una desventaja, ya que viven en circunstancias tan adversas como carecer de educación, vivir en la pobreza, ser violentadas, con hijos que alimentar y bajo el yugo de una cultura machista.
“En esas condiciones ser mujer puede ser una pesadilla y es donde tenemos todas, quienes tenemos privilegios, trabajar mucho para ayudar a estas mujeres a salir de la pobreza, del abuso, del maltrato”.
Es por lo anterior que ella no titubea a la hora de contratar a mujeres en sus empresas, y les reconoce que gracias a ellas ha podido crecer y desarrollarse.
A las mujeres les aconseja prepararse, cultivarse, educarse y participar siempre en su comunidad, en la iglesia, en las organizaciones de la sociedad civil y en todo aquello que las haga sentirse plenas y realizadas.
Entrepreneur by nature
Lourdes Domínguez, the founder of Cibeles and an example of the Chihuahua woman, describes herself as a woman of challenges.
For all of us born and raised in Ciudad Juarez, a reference to a high-status celebration is undoubtedly the Cibeles events center. This place is distinguished for being the scene of important meetings and festivals that enhance this border.
But becoming an icon in the community did not happen overnight; it was achieved thanks to the vision, dedication and constant work of a visionary woman who knew how to take advantage of opportunities from a young age.
Born in Chihuahua, but a Juarense by adoption, Mrs. Lourdes Domínguez grew up in a family of merchants, starting with her grandmother, who owned the largest clothing store in the state’s highlands. At the same time, her father was a well-known lumber businessman. Between the two of them, he tells us, they instilled in him entrepreneurship and the basics of getting a business off the ground.
“I never saw myself in a job; I always saw myself forming a company… it was always clear to me that business was for me since I was 15 years old,” she says, who is also the mother of three children and grandmother of seven grandchildren.
In this interview, she adds that it was at the age of 21 that she created her first company. This cafeteria provided service to different maquiladora plants, a challenge that she took on not only because of her ability to identify a business when it presented itself but also thanks to the support of a team that she knew how to lead from the beginning.
“I like working, forming work teams, I enjoy what I do, and I don’t get tired of it… I am an entrepreneur by nature; I like to learn, innovate, set goals and achieve them, and also set goals for others,” she describes herself as disciplined, tenacious, challenging and observant.
“I like to observe, observe what is going on around me, people, customs, trends, the world, etc.” so much so that even when she is on a trip, she analyzes the panorama, which is why there is no lack of people who comment “you are already thinking about what business to start,” she says amused.
However, although the numbers tell us otherwise, the situation in her companies has only sometimes been the most satisfactory because, in all her years of experience, she has faced some crises, which she has had to overcome, the last being the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The challenges are different all the time, and the problems have to be solved (perhaps) not as you would like, but as you can,” says Lourdes, who has also faced situations of political, economic, social, labor and competition changes, so she also advises never to lower your guard, no matter the situation.
At the service of her community
Lourdes Domínguez Arvizo, besides being a successful businesswoman, has been part of different civil organizations in which she supports the border community, which makes her feel like a privileged woman.
“Those of us who have had privileges should always be supporting others,” she tells us and recognizes that, unfortunately, in this country, not all women can have the same opportunities because there are still places in Mexico where being a woman is a disadvantage since they live in such adverse circumstances as lacking education, living in poverty, being raped, with children to feed and under the yoke of a macho culture.
“In these conditions, being a woman can be a nightmare, and that is where we all must work hard to help these women escape poverty, abuse and mistreatment.”
This is why she does not hesitate to hire women in her companies and recognizes that thanks to them, she has grown and developed.
She advises women to prepare themselves, cultivate themselves, educate themselves and consistently participate in their community, in the church, in civil society organizations and in everything that makes them feel complete and fulfilled.
