Mes de Septiembre, mes de la patria. En este mes celebramos la independencia de México, y de algunos países latinoamericanos, celebración que es digna de recordar. Una de las bendiciones más grandes que nos enseña la historia de Dios en la Biblia es precisamente como él nos quiere llevar a libertad.
Al pueblo de Israel lo liberó de la esclavitud que tenía en Egipto, a la humanidad nos quiere llevar a la libertad de la esclavitud del pecado. ¿A qué viene todo esto? Es paradójico que, en el mes de la independencia, no consideremos evitar caer en gastos excesivos que nos lleven a esclavitud económica.
¿Es malo celebrar?
¡De ninguna manera! Dios mismo en su palabra nos enseña a celebrar los eventos donde hemos sido beneficiarios de su bondad y manifestación. En Éxodo 23:14 el Señor le da este mandato al pueblo de Israel: “Tres veces al año me celebrarán fiesta”.
El problema de este tipo de eventos (celebraciones, aniversarios, fiestas, etcétera) no es la celebración, sino dejarnos llevar por la algarabía y salirnos de nuestro presupuesto personal o familiar. Debemos tener en cuenta que vivimos en una sociedad consumista y estamos saturados de publicidad seductiva que tienen como objetivo que gastemos, aun cuando no tengamos.
La importancia de la celebración no es si podemos “tirar la casa por la venta”, sino que tan significativa es la celebración para nosotros. La fiesta más importante del pueblo de Israel era la pascua, de alguna manera celebran la independencia que Dios les dio y los apartó como un pueblo de su propiedad (ver Éxodo 19:5).

Por tanto, dile a los Israelitas: ‘Yo soy el Señor, y los sacaré de debajo de las cargas de los egipcios. Los libraré de su esclavitud, y los redimiré con brazo extendido y con grandes juicios. Los tomaré a ustedes por pueblo mío y yo seré su Dios. Sabrán que yo soy el Señor su Dios, que los sacó de debajo de las cargas de los egipcios”

Los judíos durante la cena de la Pascua celebran cuatro bendiciones:
- La salida de Egipto les quitó la opresión de sus enemigos
- Los libró de esclavitud, los hizo un pueblo libre
- Los redimió a través del derramamiento de la sangre de un cordero inocente.
- Los tomó por su pueblo para ser su Dios.
¿Puedes ver alguna relación de las bendiciones que tenemos como ciudadanos que vivimos en países libres?
La clave para una buena celebración no es cuánto vas a gastar para pasártela bien, es recordar las bendiciones que tenemos gracias a personas que estuvieron dispuestas a pagar un precio que no tenemos que pagar nosotros, y que detrás de esa historia de libertad, está el Señor todo poderoso con un propósito para ti, para mí y para nuestra nación.

The month of September, a month of the national holidays. This month we celebrate the independence of Mexico from some Latin American countries, a celebration worth remembering. One of the greatest blessings that the story of God teaches us in the Bible is precisely how He wants to lead us to freedom.
He freed the people of Israel from the slavery they had in Egypt, and he wants to lead humanity to freedom from the slavery of sin. What’s this all about? It is paradoxical that, in the month of independence, we do not consider avoiding falling into excessive expenses that lead us to economic slavery.
Is it wrong to celebrate?
No way! God himself, in his word, teaches us to celebrate events where we have been beneficiaries of his goodness and manifestation. In Exodus 23:14, The Lord gives this command to the people of Israel: “Three times a year they will celebrate me a feast.”
The problem with this type of event (celebrations, anniversaries, parties, etc.) is not the celebration, but instead letting ourselves be carried away by the commotion and getting out of our personal or family budget. We must bear in mind that we live in a consumerist society, and we are saturated with seductive advertising that aims to make us spend, even when we do not have.
The importance of the celebration is not whether we can “throw the house for sale”, but how significant the celebration is to us. The most important festival of the people of Israel was the Passover; somehow, they celebrate the independence that God gave them and separated them as a people from his property (see Exodus 19: 5).

6 “Therefore, say to the Israelites: ‘I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. I will free you from being slaves to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment. 7 I will take you as my people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God, who brought you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians.” (Exodus 6:6,7).
Jews during the Passover meal celebrate four blessings:
- The departure from Egypt removed the oppression of their enemies.
- He freed them from slavery, made them a free people.
- He redeemed them through the shedding of the blood of an innocent lamb.
- He took them for His people to be his God.
Can you see any account of the blessings we have as citizens who live in free countries?
The key to a good celebration is not how much you are going to spend to have a good time but to remember the blessings we have thanks to people who were willing to pay a price that we do not have to pay, and that behind that story of freedom is the Almighty Lord with a purpose for you, our nation and me.
