Carmen Sotelo, una visionaria en el sector transportista
Ella logra equilibrar todos sus roles para sumar fuerzas en beneficio de su equipo de trabajo
Carmen Sotelo, es gerente de Recursos Humanos y Cumplimiento Legal de la empresa transportista Servicio Internacional de Enlace Terrestre (Siete), una compañía con más de 31 años de experiencia.
Además, es una mujer visionaria con tres carreras: Comercio Exterior, Psicología y Contaduría. Hermana mayor de dos hombres, con quienes se crío, esposa y madre de tres hijos varones, por lo que, no le es complicado trabajar con hombres.
A la par
Carmen considera que a lo largo de su carrera no ha tenido competencia con el hombre, pues en el área donde empezó a desempeñarse dentro del mundo transportista fue en aduanas. Para ella trabajar con varones, no es un reto, ya que ha aprendido a lidiar con ellos, habla su lenguaje y sabe cómo sacar provecho de sus habilidades y capacidades.
“El hombre es líder por naturaleza, entonces para mí no ha sido nada difícil, me gusta desarrollarlos, ponerles retos, porque yo sé cómo ellos trabajan, sé que les gustan los retos, la competencia entre ellos, sé que son líderes de hogar, ellos necesitan ganar más porque son proveedores de sus esposas e hijos, entonces eso a mí como jefa de ellos me ayuda porque les puedo poner retos y otras metas, y ellos las alcanzan”, mencionó la líder empresarial.
Nos platica que su inspiración para entrar al sector transportista fue su esposo, pues cuando se conocieron él ya se desempeñaba dentro del sector y aunque ella tenía una noción del trabajo, al ver en él su dedicación y valentía, la inspiró a entrar y seguir una carrera en esta área.
La profesionista señaló que, le gusta aprender cosas nuevas y cuando su marido la invitó a participar en su empresa, fue todo un reto para ella. “Ha sido difícil, pero como me gusta mucho aprender, entonces ha sido al mismo tiempo interesante y muy placentero, porque a pesar de que ha sido difícil, al estar aprendiendo cosas nuevas de áreas que no conozco, me ha hecho motivarme, se me ha hecho divertido y grato el camino”, dijo Sotelo.
En evolución
En cuanto a la evolución del sector transportista, antes las autoridades no exigían tantos requisitos. Actualmente, el equipo K9 es uno de esos requisitos, pues se trabaja en evitar el tráfico de estupefacientes, por lo que, los transportistas debieron adaptarse y convertirse en expertos en ese aspecto.
Carmen recuerda que cada vez han ido asumiendo más responsabilidades, como el manifiesto internacional de carga, un documento de control aduanero al que el transportista debe dar seguimiento. También les solicitan carta porte y otros requerimientos, por lo que se han tenido que adaptar a todos los cambios.
Sotelo indicó que, el reconocimiento de cada uno como persona, así como respetar las diferencias y temperamentos, le ha permitido tener un ambiente inclusivo y empático en la empresa.
Ella junto al resto de su equipo tratan de comer juntos cada viernes e incluir a los departamentos que conforman la compañía, lo cual aprovechan para platicar y convivir, además de que les ayuda a trabajar y ser unidos.
Refirió que, cuando surge un problema, se toma el tiempo de hablar con cada uno de sus colaboradores sin tomar partido, pues dice, “ella es objetiva y se pone del lado de la razón”.
Además, les brinda capacitaciones de su puesto y de los demás, para que todos sean conscientes de las labores que debe hacer cada uno.
Equilibrar todas las facetas
Relató que, a veces se tenía que levantar desde las 5:00 de la mañana, para hacer el lonche de los niños, preparar la comida, las tareas, alistar uniformes desde la noche y, además, tener el tiempo suficiente para lograr todo lo que se proponía.
Señaló que, la clave de todo era planear y hacer una lista de pendientes, a los que ponía fecha y hora, según la prioridad y urgencia. Cabe destacar que, a pesar de todos sus roles, hace un espacio en su apretada agenda para orar y trabajar en su ministerio de matrimonios, el cual está enfocado en apoyar y orientar a otras parejas para que resuelvan sus conflictos.
Su fe en Dios
Considera que, su fe en Dios la ha fortalecido, ya que si no lo hubiera conocido no hubiera llegado a donde está, e incluso cuando ve a una persona que tiene problemas, si se lo permite, ora por ella.
Su ministerio lleva por nombre “Siete”, igual que su compañía, pues fue en la misma empresa donde comenzaron con seminarios de matrimonios con 15 parejas y una duración de siete semanas.
Indicó que ante la gran necesidad de orientación que había en la comunidad, el ministerio fue creciendo exponencialmente, sin embargo, tras la pandemia por Covid-19, tuvieron que hacer una pausa, y actualmente, están por retomar sus actividades en el mes de diciembre.
Una mujer visionaria
Para Carmen Sotelo ser visionaria, la ha llevado a abrirse nuevas puertas, que le han permitido desarrollarse en varias carreras, lo que considera es importante para cualquier mujer.
“Pienso que todas debemos tener una visión corta, una mediana y una a largo plazo, porque para mí ha sido importantísimo siempre tener una visión hacia dónde voy, y a veces si he tenido que regresarme a hacer el plan”, señaló.
El tener una visión de que la mujer puede lograr muchas cosas, a pesar de todos los obstáculos que nos pone la sociedad, y que, si puede lograr lo que se proponga, a través de ser una mujer visionaria.

Carmen Sotelo is the Human Resources and Legal Compliance Manager of the transportation company Servicio Internacional de Enlace Terrestre (Siete), a company with more than 31 years of experience.

Carmen believes that throughout her career she has not had competition with men, since the area where she began to work within the transport world was in customs. For her, working with men is not a challenge, since she has learned to deal with them, speaks their language and knows how to take advantage of their skills and abilities.
“Men are leaders by nature, so it hasn’t been difficult for me. I like to develop them, to challenge them, because I know how they work, I know that they like challenges, competition among themselves, I know that they are leaders of their homes, they need to earn more because they are providers for their wives and children, so that helps me as their boss because I can set them challenges and other goals, and they achieve them,” said the business leader.
She tells us that her inspiration to enter the transport sector was her husband, because when they met, he was already working in the sector and although she had an idea of the work, seeing his dedication and courage inspired her to enter and pursue a career in this area.
The professional said that she likes to learn new things and when her husband invited her to participate in his company, it was quite a challenge for her. “It has been difficult, but since I really like to learn, it has been interesting and very pleasant at the same time, because even though it has been difficult, learning new things from areas that I don’t know has motivated me, and the journey has been fun and enjoyable,” said Sotelo.
In evolution
Regarding the evolution of the transport sector, the authorities did not demand so many requirements before. Currently, the K9 team is one of those requirements, since work is being done to prevent drug trafficking, so transporters had to adapt and become experts in that aspect.
Carmen recalls that they have been taking on more and more responsibilities, such as the international cargo manifest, a customs control document that the carrier must follow up on. They are also asked for a bill of lading and other requirements, so they have had to adapt to all the changes.
Sotelo indicated that the recognition of each person, as well as respecting differences and temperaments, has allowed her to have an inclusive and empathetic environment in the company.
She and the rest of her team try to eat together every Friday and include the departments that make up the company, which they take advantage of to talk and socialize, in addition to helping them work and be united.
She said that when a problem arises, she takes the time to talk to each of her collaborators without taking sides, because she says, “she is objective and takes the side of reason.”
In addition, they provide training for their position and for others, so that everyone is aware of the tasks that each one must do.
Balancing all facets
She said that sometimes she had to get up at 5:00 in the morning to make the children’s lunch, prepare food, do housework, get uniforms ready at night and, in addition, have enough time to achieve everything she set out to do.
She pointed out that the key to everything was planning and making a to-do list, which she set a date and time for, depending on priority and urgency. It is worth noting that, despite all her roles, she makes time in her busy schedule to pray and work on her marriage ministry, which is focused on supporting and guiding other couples to resolve their conflicts.
Her faith in God
She believes that her faith in God has strengthened her, since if she had not known him, she would not have gotten to where she is, and even when she sees a person who has problems, if they allow it, she prays for them.
Their ministry is called “Seven,” just like their company, since it was in the same company where they began with marriage seminars with 15 couples and a duration of seven weeks.
They indicated that given the great need for guidance in the community, the ministry was growing exponentially, however, after the Covid-19 pandemic, they had to take a break, and currently, they are about to resume their activities in the month of December.
A visionary woman
For Carmen Sotelo, being a visionary has led her to open new doors, which have allowed her to develop in various careers, which she considers important for any woman.
“I think that we all need to have a short-term, a medium-term and a long-term vision, because for me it has always been very important to have a vision of where I am going, and sometimes I have had to go back and make the plan,” she said.
Having a vision that women can achieve many things, despite all the obstacles that society puts in our way, and that, if they can achieve what they set out to do, by being a visionary woman.
Gabriela Téllez, es una reconocida presentadora de noticias en Ciudad Juárez y madre de dos hijos, se autodescribe como “una madre poco convencional”.
“Soy una mujer perteneciente a Ciudad Juárez, la adoro profundamente, soy de la idea de que tienes que amar este suelo que estás pisando, agradecer porque te da de comer, te da familia, te da la oportunidad de ver salir el sol, amo mi Ciudad Juárez”, declaró Téllez.
Gabriela relató a Revista Visionarias que trabajó por 10 años en la industria maquiladora, en donde admiraba a una mujer gerente de recursos humanos, quien tenían seguridad y porte, por lo que, su sueño era capacitar al personal en una empresa. Por ello, decidió estudiar Ciencias de la Comunicación, aunque irónicamente no se cumplió como tal ese sueño, logró pararse frente a un público e informar a la comunidad.
Nunca imaginó trabajar como conductora de noticias, sin embargo, por azares del destino llegó al Canal 44 y permaneció en la televisión durante 18 años.
Aunque en ese momento no era su plan quedarse, pues ya era madre y pensaba que no encajaba en ese puesto, la empresa le enseñó a maquillarse, peinarse, vestirse y hasta aceptar tú propia voz. “La gente piensa que se necesitan ciertas características para salir en la televisión, sin embargo, lo que se requiere es ser singular y diferente”, mencionó.
Como mujer y profesionista, Gaby considera que aún cuando tienes hijos, nada te tiene que detener, a pesar de que ella continuó trabajando por necesidad, también lo hizo porque no se veía sin trabajar, pues ella empezó su vida laboral desde los 15 años.
Destacó que, afortunadamente el Canal 44 le permitió seguir trabajando y compaginar su rol de madre, ya que podía cuidar a sus hijos, darles de comer, llevarlos a la escuela y trabajar por las noches. Sin embargo, acepto que fue complicado, porque la ciudad ha pasado por momentos difíciles.
Señaló que, es una mamá fuera de lo convencional, pues es estricta y por eso, impulsa a sus hijos a que no dependan de ella, y que sean autosuficientes. Sobre todo, porque sus hijos son varones, pues considera que como madre tienes que enseñarles a que sean hombres independientes, que aporten y sean valiosos para la sociedad, porque ellos mañana serán los líderes de su hogar.
Dios en su vida
“Para mi Dios es algo con lo que nacimos, soy de la idea de que, si lo pones en duda, y cuando lo pones en duda, al final ahí está, te encuentras que hay alguien más grande que tú”, comentó.
Un mensaje a las madres juarenses
Las madres debemos darnos permiso de detenernos y replantearnos el camino para seguir nuestros sueños, ya que como mujeres tenemos tantos cambios físicos, hormonales y emocionales.
“Ve por que cambios has pasado y si lo que tienes en este momento te gusta, sino te gusta, tenemos la obligación como personas de seguir creciendo y hacer ajustes a la nueva mujer en que te convertiste y la etapa en la que estás, no abandones tus sueños, muchas mujeres lo hacemos por que la vida nos va exigiendo cada vez más”, puntualizó Téllez.
An Unconventional Mom: Gaby Tellez
Gabriela Tellez, a renowned news anchor in Ciudad Juarez and a mother of two, describes herself as “an unconventional mother.”
“I am a woman who belongs to Ciudad Juarez. I adore it deeply. I believe that you must love this land you walk on, be grateful because it feeds you, gives you a family, gives you the opportunity to see the sunrise. I love my Ciudad Juarez,” Tellez declared.
Gabriela told Visionarias Magazine that she worked for 10 years in the maquiladora industry, where she admired a female human resources manager who had confidence and poise. Her dream was to train staff at a company. Because of this, she decided to study Communications Sciences. Although, ironically, that dream didn’t come true, she managed to stand in front of an audience and inform the community.
She never imagined working as a news anchor, but by chance, she ended up at Channel 44 and remained in television for 18 years.
Although at the time it wasn’t her plan to stay, as she was already a mother and thought she didn’t fit in the position, the company taught her how to apply makeup, style her hair, dress, and even embrace her own voice. “People think you need certain characteristics to appear on television, but what you need is to be unique and different,” she said.
As a woman and a professional, Gaby believes that even when you have children, nothing should stop you. Although she continued working out of necessity, she also did so because she couldn’t see herself going without work, as she began her career at the age of 15.
She emphasized that, fortunately, Channel 44 allowed her to continue working and balance her role as a mother, as she was able to take care of her children, feed them, take them to school, and work nights. However, she accepted that it was complicated because the city has been through difficult times.
She noted that she is an unconventional mother, as she is strict and therefore encourages her children not to depend on her and to be self-sufficient. Especially because her children are boys, she believes that as a mother you must teach them to be independent men, who contribute and are valuable to society, because tomorrow they will be the leaders of their homes.
God in Her Life
“For me, God is something we were born with. I believe that if you question it, and when you question it, in the end, it’s there, you find that there is someone greater than you,” she commented.
A Message to the mothers of Juarez
As mothers, we must give ourselves permission to stop and rethink the path to follow our dreams, since as women we go through so many physical, hormonal, and emotional changes.
“Look at the changes you’ve gone through and see if you like what you have right now. If you don’t, we have an obligation as people to continue growing and adjusting the new woman you’ve become and the stage, you’re in. Don’t give up on your dreams. Many women do it because life demands more and more of us,” Tellez said.

Reconocida en la frontera como la mejor wedding planner de Ciudad Juárez, Laura Sánchez comparte con Visionarias su estrategia para mantenerse en lo más alto de la organización de eventos, al tiempo que debe seguir siendo madre y esposa al 100 por ciento.
Esta mujer visionaria nos dice que el secreto está en el tiempo y en trabajar en equipo con su familia para que ella pueda cumplir con su oficio, el cual comenzó a desempeñar en 2016.
Recuerda que fundó Decco Event Planning and Design luego de asistir a una boda en la Ciudad de Chihuahua, donde se fijó en todos los detalles, la organización y decoración, algo que siempre le interesó.
Pero para lograrlo no sólo bastaba con querer hacerlo, tenía que organizarse para seguir cumpliendo con su rol de mamá, así como esposa, por lo que el tiempo fue su mayor reto, ya que ahora también debía acoplarse a la disponibilidad de sus clientes.
Sin embargo, gracias al apoyo de su marido y su fe en Dios a sabido llevarlo a cabo, “Dios siempre ha estado conmigo, cada día me sorprende más de cómo ha estado conmigo, yo siempre digo ‘gracias, Dios’, porque hasta yo misma me sorprendo; digo ‘gracias, Dios, porque estuviste aquí y esto tú me guiaste’, Dios me guió para hacer todo esto”, dice.
Sus hijos, su mayor proyecto
Para Laura, “ser madre es algo muy bonito”, asegura que junto con ello, su familia se ha convertido en un equipo cuyo objetivo final es hacer de sus hijos buenas personas, con valores y principios, además de la gratificación que tiene al sentirse admirada por sus hijos.
Es por lo anterior que siempre busca darles el mejor ejemplo para que en un futuro sepan valorar a las mujeres de su vida.
“Yo tengo dos niños varones y darles ese ejemplo a mis hijos siento que a ellos les va a influir mucho en su vida con su pareja o matrimonio para que ellos acepten que también como mujer tenemos la misma oportunidad”, dice.
Y por esas mismas oportunidades es que envía un sincero mensaje, “crean… cuando uno cree en uno mismo sacamos maravillas de nosotras mismas, que a veces nosotras mismas nos impresionamos, dudamos tanto y muchas veces nos opacan, pero sí puedo”, agrega.

Recognized on the border as the best wedding planner in Ciudad Juárez, Laura Sánchez shares with Visionarias her strategy for staying at the top of the event planning game while remaining a 100 percent mother and wife.
This visionary woman tells us that the secret lies in time and working as a team with her family so she can fulfill her profession, which she began in 2016.
She recalls that she founded Decco Event Planning and Design after attending a wedding in Chihuahua City, where she focused on every detail, the organization, and the decoration, something that had always interested her.
But to achieve this, it wasn’t enough just to want to do it; she had to organize herself to continue fulfilling her role as mother, as well as wife. Therefore, time was her biggest challenge, as she now also had to accommodate her clients’ availability. However, thanks to her husband’s support and her faith in God, she has been able to carry it out. “God has always been with me. Every day I am more surprised by how He has been with me. I always say, ‘thank you, God,’ because even I am surprised. I say, ‘thank you, God, because you were here, and you guided me through this.’ God guided me to do all of this,” she says.
Her Children, Her Greatest Project
For Laura, “being a mother is a beautiful thing.” She asserts that, along with this, her family has become a team whose ultimate goal is to raise their children into good people, with values and principles, in addition to the gratification she gets from feeling admired by them.
This is why she always strives to set the best example for them so that in the future they will know how to value the women in their lives.
“I have two boys, and setting that example for my children, I feel, will greatly influence them in their lives with their partners or marriages, so that they will accept that as women, we also have the same opportunities,” she says.
And it is through these same opportunities that she sends a sincere message: “Believe… when you believe in yourself, we bring out wonders in ourselves. Sometimes we impress ourselves, we doubt ourselves so much, and many times we are overshadowed, but yes, I can do it,” she adds.

“De las cosas más bonitas que hay en este mundo, es que yo tengo la oportunidad de tocar los corazones directamente, literal, yo creo que ese es un privilegio que no tiene nadie, para mí es de las cosas más hermosas que yo puedo tener en mi vida”, nos dice la doctora Alejandra Apodaca, cirujana cardiotorácica, quien junto al cardiólogo intervencionista Carlos Becerra, es fundadora de Cardio Clinic.
Desde hace tres años esta unidad de diagnóstico y tratamiento cardiovascular se ha encargado de prevenir, devolver y mantener la salud de hombres y mujeres en riesgo en cuanto a enfermedades del corazón se refiere.
